If you drive your child to school, please respect the pylons and use the loop, do not block Coxworth Avenue (or turn around in front of the school). Please watch for all pedestrians, stop at the stop sign and give them the right of way. Please keep our children safe. PLEASE DON’T BE LATE!! Regular and punctual attendance is expected of our students and encouraged by our staff. We will inform parents if a student’s attendance/punctuality is a matter of concern. Students who are not in their classrooms after the 8:30 am bell or by the 12:20 pm entry bell will be marked “late” and will be admitted to class only with an admit slip from the office. Instruction begins promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Traditionally this was a day of feast used to honor a Christian Saint. Over time, it became associated with love. Although we acknowledge that this is considered a special day for many people, at school we like to make a celebration of love and caring amongst families and friends, as February also marks International Friend- ship Month, and is the month in which families across Ontario, Alberta, British Co- lumbia and Saskatchewan observe Family Day. We will have several picture books out to support this theme, and to encourage appreciation of all the special people in our lives. Yahooo…lots of new books are ready! We are pleased to have several dozen new books out on the shelves for students to borrow! We have been waiting a LONG time for these titles to go through processing and are grateful for the patience of our students and staff! Come check them out!

Me to We’s Rafiki Bracelets Parkland’s Me to We team have started preorders for Rafiki chains first week. In Swahili Rafiki means “friend”. Each chain is handmade with love by a woman in Kenya, empowering her to earn a living and create a better future for her family and her community. Every Rafiki is $10 and in buying one you are donating to a community overseas through a life-changing impact like clean water, food, healthcare or school supplies. Me to WE will be taking pre- orders for these Rafikis, so if students or parents want to make sure to get one, they can fill out a pre order card until Feb. 12 at morning recesses just outside the library. They don’t have to pay now. When the Rafikis come in, they’ll get first choice! Students can bring in their money when the Rafikis are in. Give one to a friend for Valentine’s or keep one for your- self. Remember this month’s character trait is Friendship and Fairness so what better way to show a friend you care AND help another potential friend overseas.
