Okemos Community Education USE OF SCHOOL FACILITY The Okemos Public Schools are available for rental by businesses, clubs and organizations (no private parties permitted). We have classrooms, gyms, and auditoriums located throughout the district. Prices and availability vary depending on the location. SPECIAL EVENTS “The Dance” (Grades K-6) Join us for our annual dance for you and your Kindergarten through 6th grade girl. We will have a fun-filled evening of music and dancing. Snacks, cookies and lemonade will be served and each girl will receive a small gift to remember the evening. A professional photo package is available on site for an additional fee. Cost: $20 per couple/$10 each additional girl until February 7th, after February 7th, $30 per couple/$10 each additional girl. A snack and water is provided. Individual day or full year registration is available. The individual day rate is $12 per student/day; the full year is at a discounted rate of $90 per student/year. The registration deadline is at 5:00 pm on the Wednesday prior to the ERA - NO EXCEPTIONS. Okemos Community Education TEAM SPORTS OKEMOS YOUTH BASKETBALL Competitive Basketball Program (Grades 3-8) $135 The Competitive Basketball Program participates in the Red Cedar Basketball League requiring some travel to other local communities. Teams are formed at each grade level based upon independent evaluations of the players’ performance at the tryouts. Participants must attend the open tryout to have the opportunity to be placed on a team. Due to the competitive nature of the Red Cedar League, it is likely that the number of teams that would Little Chiefs Co-Ed Basketball be placed for a given grade level would not exceed two teams. These sessions will provide an age appropriate training curriculum with an emphasis on basketball fundamentals and basketball IQ. These sessions are optional. Sessions will be November 2, 9 and 16 at Chippewa Middle School. Grades 1-2 boys and girls from 10:00-11:00 am and Grades 3-6 boys and girls from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. Cost: $30. 4 School Year 2019-2020
Okemos Community Education YOUTH ENRICHMENT Chess (Grades 1-6) Learn how to play the game of chess or improve your chess skills! Approximately half of each session is spent learning chess strategies and the other half playing Chess. Students have the opportunity to play in local, state, and national tournaments. No chess the week of Thanksgiving or during Book Fairs. Students registered for Fall Chess will have an opportunity to continue the class by registering for the Winter/Spring session separately. Okemos Community Education OKEMOS KIDS CLUB Okemos Kids Club opened in the fall of 1983. The program was created to meet a community need that was identified by parents and school personnel. It was developed and is sponsored by Okemos Community Education in cooperation with school personnel. Current Kids Club programs include: Infant, Toddler, Young and Older Preschool, ½ day Discoveries and GSRP, and K-8 Before/After school care at the elementary schools and Kinawa. These programs provide options for children as young as six weeks through the middle school years. OKC is fully licensed by the State of Michigan, Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMMING The Okemos Kids Club Edgewood Early Childhood Center houses our Infant – Preschool programs and uses Creative Curriculum throughout our programs as an educational guide to developing lifelong learners. School Closing: In the event that schools are closed because of inclement weather or mechanical failure, no Community Education classes will be held. Classes will be rescheduled as time permits. Class Cancellation: Your early registration will help ensure that a class will be held. Most classes have a minimum of 10 participants. If a class must be canceled due to low enrollment, participants will be notified via email and/or phone and a full refund will be issued. Refund Policy: To cancel a registration in a class, call 706-5021 prior to the first day of class and request a refund. There is a $5 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations after a class has begun. Charges for Insufficient Funds: A $35 fee will be assessed for any check returned for insufficient funds.
