Summer Enrichment Courses Offered as a partnership between the Woodbridge Township School District and the Woodbridge Recreation Department Students participating in both morning and afternoon in-person sessions must bring a bag lunch from home and will be supervised by instructors in class- rooms during the lunch period before transfer to the afternoon session. Tuition amounts listed are per 5-day class for one student. Students will meet in the main foyer of the school on the morning of the first day. Week 1 – July 20-24, Avenel Middle School & VIRTUAL STEAM Every Day VIRTUAL Join us for fun filled week that includes activities, imagina- tion, and fun! From math to science to music to arts and crafts we will explore together! This course will provide LIVE Zoom instruction each day along with How-to videos to support fun projects. Participants will need to pick up a kit of materials prior to the start of the virtual campl Instructor: Mrs. Mentzel has been teaching for 10 years at the middle school level as a Language Arts teacher. She is passionate about reading and writing as well as technology. #002 AM session – entering grades 3-6 Tuition: $75 Desert Animals and their Habitat: A Biome Study IN PERSON Rattlesnakes, meerkats, and Geckos OH MY! Come join the fun and explore a very HOT Topic: The Desert habitat and the creatures that live there! This course will be taught in person with required social distancing. Instructors: Mr. Cerreto has gratefully been a first grade teacher for 26 years and has instructed in the summer enrich- ment program the past 5 years. Mrs. Steinberg has had the honor to teach first grade, fourth grade and now sixth grade American History. She also has instructed in the summer en- richment program for 4 years. #003 AM Session with Mrs. Steinberg -- entering Grades 1-3 #004 PM Session with Mr. Cerreto – entering Grades 1-3 Tuition: $100 Imagine! Write! Publish! VIRTUAL Each class is designed to foster creativity, self-expression and ex- citement about the writing process using Bookemon to create a beautiful published book as a keepsake. This program will be ad- ministered with daily Zoom meetings and e-mailed materials. Stu- dents must have access to a PC or chromebook (not ipad) to ac- cess the Bookemon website where they will create their book. Par- ents will be expected to order books on their own at additional ex- pense. Instructor: Mrs. Sweeney has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Literature & a Master’s Degree in Administra- tion & Supervision. She has been teaching in Woodbridge Township for 19 years, 13 years as a middle school Language Arts Teacher, 2 years in high school English, and 4 years as a Gifted & Talented Enrich- ment Teacher. Week 1 Continued ¡Viva el Español! Spanish Immersion Camp VIRTUAL Join us to explore the Spanish language with games, songs, activities, crafts & skits. Students will be immersed in the Spanish language and cul- ture. Help your child get a head start in acquiring a World Language that will benefit them now and in the near future! ¡Viva el Español! K-3 pro- gram will be taught using daily Zoom meetings and an e-mailed packet. Grade 3-5 program will be taught using google classroom and google meets. Instructors: Mrs. Henriques was born in Argentina and has been teach- ing Spanish for 18 years. Mrs. Clifford was born in Ecuador and has been teaching Spanish for 20 years. Both are teachers at Colonia Middle School and have established the World Culture Club there. #010 AM Session -- entering Grades K-3 #011 PM Session – entering Grades 3-5 Tuition: $75 Disney Summer Sing-along VIRTUAL Who doesn’t LOVE Disney songs?! Students will learn songs from favorite Disney movies and shows. Program will be ad- ministered using daily Zoom meetings and google classroom. Instructor: Ms. Minucci is a graduate of Marywood Univer- sity where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Educa- tion with major instruments flute and voice. Ms. Minucci has been teaching in Woodbridge Township School District for 31 years, 28 of those years in Indiana Avenue School #18. Ms. Minucci enjoys hearing students' voices mature over a period of 6 years at the elementary level and loves to see students’ eyes light up when they sing Disney songs. #012 AM Session -- entering Grades 2-6 Tuition: $75 American Sign Language for High School: Bridging the Communication Gap VIRTUAL This year we are excited to offer an ASL Immersion Summer Class for High School students. “Bridging The Communication Gap” is designed to keep your skills fresh through games, activities, and more. This class is open to all High School Students with ASL1 or ASL2 experience. This course will be taught using Zoom and google classroom. Instructor: Born, raised, and educated in Canada, Mrs. Tan has been dedicated to bridging the communica- tion gap between the Deaf and hearing communities for over 30 years. She holds multiple degrees in educa- tion including a specialty in teaching the Deaf and American Sign Language. Mrs. Tan has had the oppor- tunity to teach on three different continents in multiple settings and has taught both Deaf and hearing students in all grades from Pre-K through University and beyond. In addition to her career as a teacher, Mrs. Tan is a professional inter- preter for the Deaf specializing in medical, educational, and religious interpreta- tion. She is also a swimming coach/instructor specializing in stroke analy- sis. When not teaching or interpreting, Mrs. Tan enjoys long distance cycling, swimming, and playing with her French sheepdog. #015 PM session – entering Grades 9-12 Tuition: $75 Maximum enrollment: 15
Week 1 Continued Forensic Detectives: CSI Summer Camp VIRTUAL Forensic Detectives CSI Sumer Camp aims to develop interest in fo- rensic science. By using investigative techniques and scientific meth- ods, junior detectives will learn how to solve the mysteries behind crime scenes. In general, CSI camp focuses on evidence collection such as fingerprints, shoe imprints, teeth mark impressions, handwrit- ing analysis, (sample) blood type testing and more. Junior detectives may also learn forensic geology and the use of insects and plants. There will be opportunities to solve crime puzzles using the skills that the detectives have acquired from the camp. Program will be administered using google classroom and Zoom meetings each day. A list of materials needed will be provided prior to the start of camp. Instructors: Mrs. Azar currently teaches 4th and 5th grade Gifted & Talented Enrichment and PEG in Woodbridge. She earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Connecti- cut. Mrs. Azar loves incorporating technology, teaching outside-the-box lessons, and encouraging students to create and follow through with goals. This is Mrs. Azar's 12th year teaching. A lover of sports, the beach, amusement parks and learning new things, you can find Mrs. Azar going on adventures with family or relax- ing at home cooking new meals. Mrs. Moudatsos has been a Language Arts teacher at Colonia Middle School for 12 years. She enjoys incorporating real-life situations into her lessons and giving students chanc- es to express their creativity. She also believes it is important to utilize cross-curricular practices. Mrs. Mou- datsos is a new mom, who loves running and reading. She is looking forward to a fun summer course! #018 AM session – entering Grades 3-8 Tuition: $75 Clank, Bang, Snap, Haul: Rube Goldberg Machines for All VIRTUAL Rube Goldberg machines take simple tasks, like turning off a light, and makes it very complex using an array of simple machines. In this camp, students will use a variety of materials, such as Ozobots, Marble Run Sets, recyclables and everyday objects to complete simple tasks that change daily. Students are encouraged to read books and watch videos about Rube Goldberg Machines before attending camp to gain knowledge and gather ideas. Program will be administered using e-mailed materials and Zoom meetings each day. Participants will be required to pick up a kit of materials prior to the start of camp. Instructor: Mrs. Azar currently teaches 4th and 5th grade Gifted & Talented Enrichment and PEG in Woodbridge. Week 1 Continued Becoming a Paper Mâché Protégé! IN PERSON Learn about famous Artists/Sculptors and prepare to design your own master- pieces using paper, paint, and plaster. Build a piñata and fill it with yummy can- dy, or make your favorite character. Show us your creativity and become a Pa- per Mâché Protégé! This course is taught in person with required social distanc- ing. Instructor: Ms. Caggiano studied at Sacred Heart University, Kean University, and received her masters Degree in Education as a Reading Specialist from Georgian Court University. She grew up in Woodbridge Township Schools and has been a Kindergarten teacher in Woodbridge Township School District for the past 5 years at Woodbine Elementary School #23. #020 AM session – entering Grades K-5 Tuition: $100 Mixed Media Art! VIRTUAL Students will create projects inspired by famous artists. They will create two and three dimensional projects by experimenting with different media such as paint, pastels, pa- per, glue, and much more while learning new drawing, painting, and print-making tech- niques. This program will be taught using Zoom meetings and google classroom. Par- ticipants will be required to pick up a kit of materials before the start of camp. Instructor: Ms. Tobia is a graduate of Monmouth University. She is certified in Art K- 12 and Elementary Education K-8. Ms. Tobia has been an Art teacher in Woodbridge for 15 years. She currently teaches Art at School #18, School #19 and School #29. #021 AM session – entering Grades 1-3 Tuition: $100 (inclusive of art supplies) Maximum enrollment: 30 Art Around the World! VIRTUAL Paint like the Aborigines! Discover the caves of Lascaux in France! Students will create projects based on different parts of the world. Students will use materials like paint, pastels, charcoal, and much more! This program will be taught using Zoom meetings and google classroom. Participants will be required to pick up a kit of mate- rials before the start of camp. Instructor: Ms. Tobia is a graduate of Monmouth University. She is certi- fied in Art K-12 and Elementary Education K-8. Ms. Tobia has been an Art teacher in Woodbridge for 15 years. She currently teaches Art at School #18, School #19 and School #29. #022 PM session – entering Grades 4-6 iMovie Madness! IN PERSON Welcome to iMovie Madness, where we explore the (fade) ins and (fade) outs of the apple program iMovie. Students enrolled in this class will have the opportunity to shoot, edit, master, and share their iMovie creations. Projects include a slide show project and a movie project. No experience needed, bring your director's chair and an idea! This course will be taught in person with required social distancing. Instructor: Mr. Competello is the general music teacher/ choir director at Avenel Middle School. He re- ceived his BA in music education with a focus in conducting and composition at Kean University in 2015. He is also a member of "Little Kids Rock!" which trains music educators in using music kids love to teach them music! #046 AM session – entering Grades 4-8 Tuition: $100

Tuition: $75 VIRTUAL Each day students will learn about a famous artist and apply his or her style, characteristics, or compositional approach in order to create a 16x20” canvas acrylic painting. Students will create superhero-themed paintings in various genres and styles such as landscapes, silhouettes, pop art, etc. Students follow the instructor in a step by step procedure, mak- ing even a first time painter feel at ease! This virtual class will be administered over daily live Zoom meetings with lessons recorded and posted in google classroom to access at students’ convenience. Participants will need to pick up a kit of materials before the first class. Instructor: Ms. Jaye received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2009 from Wagner College where she was a du- al major in art and childhood education. Ms. Jaye also received a Master of Arts degree in 2014 from Kean University where she studied Educational Administration. Ms. Jaye taught elementary art in Woodbridge Township for 10 years and taught a children’s painting class at the Woodbridge Artisan Guild for 5 years. #028 AM session – entering grades 4-8 #029 PM session — entering grades 1-3 Tuition: $100 (inclusive of canvases and art supplies) Reader’s Theater: Fun with Fluency and Expression IN PERSON If you enjoy imaginative play, then this is the class for you! We will read old favorite stories and create our own play to perform. Whether you are a new reader, or have more experience, there is a role for you in this activity. We can help young readers or experienced readers with expression and fluency by tapping into their creative side. This course is taught in person with required social distancing. Participants must have plain white paper, graph paper, pencils, black markers, a ruler, a compass (for drawing circles), colored pencils, crayons and markers to complete projects. Instructor: Ms. Halloran has been teaching math at CMS for 8 years and recently earned her masters de- gree from TCNJ. She has had the opportunity to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. She is excited to provide students with a creative outlet and hopes to show them the beauty in math. #042 AM session – entering grades 3-6 Tuition: $75
Week 2 Continued American Sign Language for Beginners VIRTUAL We will be learning American Sign Language this summer through traditional stories. Stu- dents will bring the stories to life using ASL through dramatic play and role-play activities for everyday encounters. Students will also develop their sign language skills through arts and crafts, music, games, and story-telling. This course is taught using Zoom and google classroom Instructor: Born, raised, and educated in Canada, Mrs. Tan has been dedicated to bridging the communica- tion gap between the Deaf and hearing communities for over 30 years.
