A Message from Life Management Classes Our Life Management Skills class discusses many important skills throughout the semester. This year, some of the students have listed "learning to tie a tie" as one of the skills that they would like to learn, so we are asking for donations of any used neckties. We ask that they be dropped off by your student or yourself in the front office before Feb. 26th. Thank you so much for your help. A Message to New National Honor Society Members from Kimberly McKernan The National Honor Society induction is virtual this year. Congratulations to our newest members! Please see the link below to watch the ceremony. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jTZoA6hEW8ZpkfjLw2SmTlGTrbww5s9K/view?usp=sharing The process is new with Cognia as we will get the final score with the written report, however, OHS hit a home run! The accreditation panel of 7 educators was very impressed. Here are the "themes" or strengths according to the panel:
1. Culture of Pride Rock is embedded in the school and community. Pride, positive atmosphere, everyone loves working and being at OHS, etc. 2. Post-secondary and Career Opportunities are clear and evident. Impressed with CTE/industry certifications, AP, dual enrollment, broad range of choices open to all students, etc. 3. Systematic data driven analysis is embedded and permeates throughout the whole school from teachers, staff, parents, and students. They were extremely impressed with our at-risk program and how we increased our subgroups' graduation rates through mentoring/monitoring/data driven conversations. They were also impressed that everyone uses data, knows about it, and talks about it including the students. Felt we were reaching all students even with SC and synchronous teaching. 4. Stakeholder communication takes place through multiple methods. Impressed with weekly principal's update and communication in SAC. 5. Learning opportunities are in multiple modalities. Impressed with station rotations, groups, varied instruction, progress monitoring, DI, etc. 6. Technology use and availability especially with regards to all teachers and all students. Talked about near pod, SC, webcams, interactive notebooks etc. The final comment was they were inspired and wanted to join the staff here. Thank you to all the teachers, staff, parents, community members, Mike Gaudreau, and students for taking time to be interviewed during the process. A big thank you to Dr. Menta for leading us in accreditation process during a very challenging year. She did an exemplary job. I can't begin to describe the workload with this new process. Contact joneslz2@scps.k12.fl.us Class of 2021 Honor Graduate Night is Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. on the John Courier Field. Graduation - Thursday, May 27, 2021 at OHS in the auditorium. Seniors’ Last Day – Friday, May 14, 2021 Graduation will be held in the auditorium this year for the Class of 2021. This will enable every senior to invite their families to attend and enjoy the celebration. The seniors selected this option as their preference. Each senior's family will enter the auditorium as a family unit and observe their senior's graduation. Seniors will sign up for a time slot, and they can coordinate the time with other senior friends. More details will be forthcoming, but we wanted to make you aware of the date for planning purposes. With an on-campus graduation, schools will incur a lower cost to coordinate the graduation ceremony. Due to this decreased cost, we will be able to refund students a partial amount that will be announced once we determine the cost of our on-campus ceremony. The senior class is also working to develop senior events/activities. Details coming soon.

If your child is feeling ill or displaying any potential symptoms, please err on the side of caution and keep them home. Every student does have 10 absences that a parent can write a note for making them excused. This is per semester, so you don’t have to worry. Also, at home a student can log into eCampus/Canvas and stay up to date on the class material. 2. If your child has recently been tested for COVID-19 due to symptoms, has symptoms, or potential exposure, please contact our school nurse at merletdz@scps.k12.fl.us or 407-796-2074. 3. If your student tests positive, please immediately contact Tanya Cameron at 407-320-4008 or call the school at 407-320-4050.
