PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Zone Cross Country Carnival Congratulations to the students who qualified for the Zone Cross Country to be held this Friday (30th April) at EDSAAC Oval. A huge thank you to Mrs Haines who not only co-ordinated our school Cross Country, but also is the convenor for the Tuggerah Lakes (Zone) Cross Country carnival this week. Best of luck to our students who will be competing. Achievements of results for both carnivals will be acknowledged at Week 3 assembly. NAPLAN Our Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN assessments will be completed in Weeks 4 and 5. Our school will complete the testing on-line for the first time. Students have been preparing for the new online model. A schedule will be communicated to Year 3 and 5 students next week. Voluntary Contributions A huge thank you to the families who have made a voluntary contribution to our school. The generosity of our school community allows us to provide enhanced resources and opportunities for our students. P & C Meeting The P&C AGM meeting will be held on Monday 3rd May. The meeting will be held in the staffroom at 7pm. All parents welcome! Mother’s Day Stall The P&C will be running a Mother’s Day stall in the hall on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th May for our students. On-line payment is the preferred method for purchasing the gifts. Further information is available on the P&C page in this newsletter. Top Playground Update We have been given final approval for our top playground to be renovated. Funding has been granted from a variety of sources to allow us to improve our outdoor learning space within the school. These sources include: • P&C • Mr Adam Crouch Member for Terrigal - Community Building Partnership grant • Department of Education grant • School generated funds Work is scheduled to begin later in the term and should take between four and six weeks to complete. We look forward to seeing the end result of this project. Ease of COVID-19 Restrictions NSW Health has advised schools that we are now able to participate in a wider variety of activities. This means students will be able to participate in Central Coast Choral Fest, Star Struck and dance rehearsals. Thank you to our volunteers and classroom helpers for assisting in the school. Please continue to use the QR Code and sign in at our office. Students will be required to sign in their phones as of Monday 3rd May and they will be stored safely in our front office.
AEDC Our Kindergarten students will be participating Australian Early Development Census. This information is used by the government to plan for resourcing for health, education and infrastructure for the future. School Attendance Due to the time it takes for postal mail to arrive I am unsure when parents/carers will receive a Term 1 Student Attendance Report for their child/ren. School attendance rates are closely linked to student academic performance and progress. Good school attendance is considered 95% or better. It is a legal requirement that all absences, including partial absences, are explained within two days of the absence. Explanations can be communicated via Class Dojo, the School App or by contacting the office on 0243844599. Staff Car Park Please do not use the staff car park unless your vehicle has been authorised. Have a wonderful week and enjoy the sunshine. Kind regards Sandy Knowles Relieving Principal Check-in assessment for Years 4 and 6 Dear parents and carers, Year 4 and 6 students will participate in a reading and numeracy check-in assessment during the first few weeks of this term The check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor Year 4 and 6 student learning following the period of learning from home. The check-in assessments can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 4 and 6 students during Term 2 Weeks 1-3. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment that they would normally receive in the classroom.

Canteen Roster General Reminders Term 2 Week 3 Starting Term 2 we just wanted to remind everyone of a few Mon 3/5 Kelly K things to help us to make your children’s canteen experiences Tues 4 Candice run smoothly. I’ll add more info in the next newsletter. Wed 5 Kelly S Spoons and forks – we provide bamboo forks and spoons to Thurs 6 Helper needed students who have orders with items that require these to be Fri 7 Jackie, Kim O, Jess M Week 4 able to eat them. This includes custard and yoghurt, salads, Mon 10 Helper needed canteen made pasta and rice dishes and other items that you Tues 11 Sandii, Jess H would expect cutlery to be able to eat. This is included in the Wed 12 Rebecca cost of that menu item, and there is no extra charge. If you Thurs 13 Jaylene would like a spoon or fork for an item that does not ordinarily Fri 14 Sally, Gaby, Yvette require one (eg. Meat pie), please order a fork or spoon under Week 5 the extras menu. If you require a fork or spoon for food Mon 17 Helper needed Tues 18 Leanne, Melanie brought in from home, and have not packed one from home – Wed 19 Brooke please send in 10c to cover the cost of these. We have to pay Thurs 20 Helper needed for these items, and would appreciate it if you could cover the Fri 21 Priya, Simone, Jennifer cost of what you’re asking us to provide. Separate orders for recess and lunch. Your child’s order is placed in their bag with their order label on it. This means that if you want recess and lunch, they must be ordered separately. When we have over 300 orders on a Friday, we don’t have time to search through all the lunch orders to try to find something ordered at lunch that the child needs to eat at recess time. Please order them separately so they receive the correct meal at the correct time, in their own bag, with their order label on it. Picking up their own order at recess. All recess orders are picked up by the student themselves; lunch orders are taken to the class or designated eating area by the class lunch monitors in their class tub. Recess however is picked up by the individual and has all their items in the bag (including their cold and frozen items). This can be a great option for kids that forget to pick up their cold and frozen items at lunch time. Perhaps think about getting a recess order instead, so you know they have everything in the one bag. Picking up cold and frozen items at lunch time. Only the main food items are placed in their bag at lunch time. If they have a cold or frozen item ordered as well, their bag will be stamped (Stamp reads “Canteen – bring back bag for cold items”) and they should return their bags after eating their main food in the bag, to collect their other items. We do not place these items into the bags, as they heat up and melt due to the number of hot items purchased and placed in the lunch tubs together. Please remember, if you have any questions about the canteen, including ingredients, feedback or to discuss volunteering, you can contact me at the canteen from 8am-2pm Monday to Friday, or on my mobile 0414 855 629. Thanks, Lyn
