       7.0 Reports

              7.01 Principal

Spring has sprung and since our return from March Break, the school has been filled with
the positive energy brought on by the warmer weather. With the sun shining and the
snow melting, this has given our teachers more opportunities to engage their students in
pedagogical activities, outdoors. We are also continuing to follow the strict guidelines
from DRSP and doing everything necessary to provide our staff and students with the
       safest environment possible.

Students in grade 1 to grade 6 are now required to wear a procedural (pediatric) mask
at all times while in school and on the bus. Students are adjusting very well to this new
sanitary measure. Thank you to the CPS staff and teachers for helping our students
navigate this new situation. Masks were mandated by the Ministry and are provided by
       the school each day.

Christmas Park Elementary Governing Board Minutes March 18, 2021 3
In March, we start our formal planning for the next school year. The staffing process has
begun, and we continue to get new registrations from K4 to grade 6.

Before leaving for March break, we hosted our Carnival week. I would like to thank the
committee for doing an amazing job and for preparing a program that made students,
and adults, smile and have a marvelous time.

Board wide ped days are scheduled for March 29th and 30th with a wide array of
professional development opportunities being offered by the ESD and SSD teams.

               7.06 Commissioner Report

The Director General shared the Annual Report and overall the LBPSB has shown progress
in many areas. It was also noted that due to the shutdown that occurred March 13th,
2020 the report does not include the ministry exams which can play a role in the more
complete results. She of course gave an update on COVID 19 and its impact on the
school board. Trends continue downwards at the school board. She congratulated all
the incredible work being done by everyone in this continued endeavour.

The DG and all of the senior administration wished all the teachers the best for Teacher
Appreciation Week and extended her gratitude to all the staff that have played such a
huge role in keeping students engaged in the past year.

Christmas Park Elementary Governing Board Minutes March 18, 2021 5
This year’s career fair was entirely virtual, with 50 exhibitors present. There were over 3400
attendees. She extended congratulations to the student services department and the
       school’s guidance counsellors.

The school board passed a resolution in recognition of Black History month. The resolution
       is included in this report.

Question period at the meeting was especially busy this year as several parents
expressed concern about the proposed schedule changes from early start to late start to
St John Fisher Jr and St John Fisher Sr due to the move of St Thomas school to the Lindsay
       Place site.

There was also a question with regards to including substitute teachers in
communications that are sent out by the school board.

The student representatives on council presented a resolution that they have forwarded
to the Education Minister and other government representatives encouraging the
government to give parents and students to have the choice of either in-person or online
schooling. In their motion they did recognize the incredible efforts made by the school
board to keep everyone safe with all of the added measures that have been
implemented by the school board, including the installation of air purifiers and upgrading
       the air filters.

There were some staffing announcements announced as well as Andrew Hannah will be
given a temporary assignment as Vice-Principal at BHS to replace Jason Ferris who will
       become principal at Beurling Academy.
