Staff Reflection This Sunday, the First and Second Readings, along with the Gospel speaks of repentance. In the Gospel Jesus tells the disciples, as he opens their minds to the Scriptures, "Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem." Most of us have heard this many times and know it, but the question is what are we actually doing to repent, meaning to change our ways. This means changing our ways in how we think, what we do, and how and what we love. Some us are familiar with changing our ways to be healthier physically. We hear we need to change how we eat or our life style so we can be in better physical condition. It seems we do it for a while and then SUNDAY, APRIL 18, 2021 our bad habits return. We know that we must do it, we even 7:30 a.m. Bert & Irene Pietrinferno want to do it, but it is in actually doing it that we struggle. 9:00 a.m. Alice Carroll It seems in our faith we hear about repenting, but not as 10:30 a.m. Charlotte & Joseph Stackhouse much about how to go about changing our ways. Yet it can 12 Noon Edward & Theresa Sharr be easier than trying to be in better physical condition and can help us in achieving that goal also. I can tell you that a MONDAY, APRIL 19, 2021 number of years ago I did all the things I had to do to get 6:30 a.m. For the Parish into great physical condition. My doctor told me everything 9:00 a.m. Robert Sims was perfect, but I can also tell you in achieving this goal and maintaining it, there still seemed to be something else TUESDAY, APRIL 20, 2021 missing. 6:30 a.m. Michael Lojewski What I found, was that my faith wasn't where it needed to 9:00 a.m. Fred Fowl be. I was pretty faithful in attending Mass, but I can't say that I had a good relationship with Jesus. I would pray any WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21, 2021 time I needed help with something, but that was the extent 6:30 a.m. John B. Ryan Jr. of our relationship. Through a program at my parish I 9:00 a.m. Albert Rossi learned there was more to our faith than I was experiencing and it involved me making a commitment to get to know THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 2020 Jesus better and to be open to his love, through the Holy 6:30 a.m. Gloria Hughes Spirit. I had to change my ways, in other words repent. This 9:00 a.m. 56th Wedding Anniversary of Norman & meant spending more time praying to the Holy Spirit for Priscilla Pfizenmayer help in understanding the Scriptures and also for help to be open to God's love. I had to spend some time reading the FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 2021 bible and to learn how God was always trying to help 6:30 a.m. Anibala Velez mankind get closer to him. I found reading some books on 9:00 a.m. William Beadling - 5th Anniversary the saints helped me to understand the loving relationship with God available to us through Jesus. It seemed the more I SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 2021 prayed and read, the more I felt a closeness to the Lord and 9:00 a.m. Mary Lou & Thomas Santora realized the greatness of the sacraments available to us 5:00 p.m. Mary Lou & Michael Kienlen through the Church, given to us by Jesus. This also opened my eyes to how much more I had to repent, because I SUNDAY, APRIL 25, 2021 wanted to grow much closer to Jesus. I also learned that I 7:30 a.m. Butch Pietrini needed help. I learned that this help and strength comes 9:00 a.m. Peter & Mary Durso from the Holy Spirit, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and 10:30 a.m. Mary Yezzi - 10th Anniversary of course the Eucharist, Jesus himself. 12 Noon Thomas & Mary Sheedy Jesus wants to have a loving relationship with all of us as we hear in the Scripture Readings today. This relationship is like all relationships, it will continue to grow as long as we are willing to spend time with Jesus and get to know him Week of April 18, 2021 more. He has given himself to us and has given us the The Sanctuary Candle burns opportunity to let his face shine on us for eternity, if we are willing to repent. in memory of: God Bless, Thomas F.
