From the Desk of Fr. David Rivera, Pastor Resurrexit Sicut Dixit! He is Risen as He Said! A er the 40 days of penance and medita ng on our Lord’s passion and death, we celebrate the Resurrec on. The Resurrec on of Jesus Christ is what we celebrate and commemorate on Easter. This might seem obvious, but in our mes nothing can be taken for granted. Commercializa on and seculariza on have affected and hijacked our religious observances by either playing down the spiritual reality and/or turning them into money making moments. This ‘day of days’ is about the history changing moment in which Jesus, who had preached, taught, suffered and died, was raised from the dead. If it seems hard to believe, and it should be as if it were not, then it would not have made history! It seemed unbelievable to the apostles and everyone who heard about it. St. Thomas, the apostle, did not even believe the other apostles to whom the Lord had appeared. This should not surprise us. The more unbelievable a claim the more proof we want. It took several appearances and encounters with the resurrected Jesus for the disciples to finally come to believe. It was a total life changing shock. Once Jesus had appeared to the apostles could they fully come to accept that they were not imagining things. The Resurrec on of Jesus was not some delusion or wishful group thing. It was because of the reality of the Resurrec on that the lives of the apostles changed forever. They could never be the same. All that Jesus taught them, all His prophesies; all His promises and warnings came flooding back to the memory of the disciples. Like a scene from a movie, the whole life of Christ probably flashed before their eyes. Like an existen al earthquake, the Resurrec on shook the disciples bringing them to conversion and a total life commitment. For them believing in Christ was not a hobby, something to do on the weekends, and certainly not something to hide or be ashamed of. In our mes the Faith has grown weak, something cultural. For the apostles who encountered the Risen Lord, the Faith was about a total life transforma on and complete commitment to living the Gospel. In this Easter season we need to pray for the grace to have a fresh encounter with Jesus the Risen Lord so our lives may be transformed, and our hearts set on fire with the Love of God. We need to pray for a faith that leads to a changed way of life; a life conformed to the will of God. Therefore, during the Easter season the bulle n ar cles will focus on what it means to live a life that flows from faith in the Resurrec on. The topics will cover ‘conversion’; ‘grace’; the ‘virtues’ and similar themes. As we journeyed together in Lent toward repentance, we will now journey together to live our lives filled with Easter joy! Happy Easter! Buona Pasqua! Feliz Pascua! ST.
