    Wisconsin Veterans
Home at King I hope you had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!

One of the best things about Wisconsin is summertime! It’s a time for
Commandant our members to get out and feel the sunshine, take in the activity of all
Tammy Servatius nature’s creatures, and enjoy our beautiful surroundings. I’ve enjoyed
seeing the pictures of our members who are able to take advantage of
our fishing trips and gardening and other outdoor activities. Thank you to
       Ainsworth Hall
those volunteers who help make all of our activities happen.
      Executive Director
Douglas Wamack Many of you may be familiar with the Wisconsin Veterans Museum because
it has a gallery located here in the Marden Center. Since the pandemic
MacArthur Hall began, the main museum in Madison had been closed. But, as of July
Executive Director 1st, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum has re-opened to the public. One
Greg Reichenbach thing the pandemic gave us was the opportunity to expand our virtual
programming. In essence, we are bringing the Museum to you. Over the
Olson Hall past year, our Museum expanded its virtual programs, including trivia
Executive Director nights, movie discussions, and special lectures. Since last March, we’ve
Rhonda Kozik hosted 73 virtual programs. I’ve participated in many of these programs
and enjoyed them. I encourage you to take a look to see what might
                           interest you and join us.

LIKE US Further, I know our Museum is always looking to hear stories directly from
ON veterans for the oral history collection, as well as to gather photos and
other items for our collections so please consider what you might be able

sworth Hall a couple of times a week.

I’ve been married to my wife Julie for 30 years and we have
two wonderful children. Lexi, who is 24 and will be getting
married this coming December and our son Max who is 20

                                         with the Army National Guard.

Past jobs I have held include service in the United States Air
Force from 1982 to 2015, then following retirement from the Air Force I worked for the United
States Postal Service as a letter carrier for Kaukauna, Wisconsin.

Hobbies I enjoy are bike riding and volunteering to help veterans any way I can.

Eventhough I am new to King with volunteering, I have volunteered with the NALC food drive,
Food Pantry in Appleton, DAV driver, and Wreaths Across America. I also belong to the DAV,
       VFW, and The American Legion.

I’m really looking forward to spending time with and getting to know the members at the Wis-

A Reflection on the Experiences of Mary Magdalene: Through the Grace of God, We Are Made
 Worthy to Serve Him

The person of Mary Magdalene stands unique and blessed as one reflects on her life experiences.
Before Mary came into contact with Jesus she was like a barren piece of land. In her there was
no hope of love and joy. As recorded in (Luke 8:3) she had seven demons cast out of her. In other
words, Mary Magdalene had been under severe demonic attack. The implication of her state was
that she was the marginalized of the society. She could not help herself until the lord touched
her. Mary responded to the touch of the lord by availing herself to the service of others and the
ministry of Jesus. The ability to allow Jesus to start a new life in us is salvation in itself. From the
unpleasant background of Mary Magdalene, we realize that God’s plan with each one of us cannot
be thwarted. Not even the devil and his minions. Jesus has the power to cleanse and make worthy.
When Jesus saved Mary, he liberated the highest virtues of sacrifice, fortitude, and courage. At the
end of it all, Mary can look back and say, ‘thank you lord you have held me worthy to be in your
 presence and minister to you.’

Gratitude that is Never Swallowed by Circumstances. (Luke 8:1-3)

Mary Magdalene is among those women who denied themselves the pleasure of enjoying a
social life free from the influence of demons. After she had been freed of the demons, it was an
opportunity for her to stay in her family and bond with it for mutual support, but she chose to
follow Jesus. She sacrificed her life and her belongings to support the mission of Jesus Christ. In
most cases we fall in the temptation of clinging to our material possessions and even continue
to horde but not with Mary Magdalene. She is somebody who is ready to give away her time and
her material possessions. She is someone who has discovered the joy that comes with giving. She
realized that the meaning of the work of her hands is found in depositing what one owns to the
ministry of Jesus Christ. Her gratitude is expressed in supporting the ministry of Jesus Christ. By
following Jesus Christ through his passion to the cross, Mary Magdalene proved her unwavering
support. Her love does not surrender. Her gratitude is never swallowed by circumstances.

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas,
and Mary Magdalene.” (John 19:25) the presence of Mary Magdalene at the cross of Jesus Christ is
a clear sign of her commitment to loving the lord. She did not run away from the sorrow that came
with the pain of seeing her Lord suffering. Instead, she allowed the pain to bite her. Disserting
our beloved ones in difficult times is challenged by Mary Magdalene. Her courage to stand by the
cross against all odds is a depiction of love that endures.

Called By Name to Witness the Risen Lord. (John 20: 11-18)

But Mary stood outside facing the tomb, crying. As she was crying, she stooped to look into the
tomb. She saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet, where Jesus’
body had been lying. They said to her, “Woman, why are you crying?”“Because they’ve taken away
my Lord,” she told them, “And I don’t know where they’ve put Him.” Having said this, she turned
around and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not know it was Jesus. “Woman,” Jesus said
to her, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for”?

Once again in the above text, Mary Magdalene is driven from sorrow to hope by the appearance of
the risen lord. She is called by name. From being called by name she realized that she was facing
her ‘Teacher’. Mary Magdalene is provided with the opportunity to be the first to witness the risen
lord. She is then given a mandate, to go and announce to the disciples the good news about the
risen Lord. Mary journeys from a wounded woman to an announcer of Good News. Every day the
Lord is calling us by name, to move from our wounded states of life to the joy of announcing the
 Good News.

Conclusion Personal knowledge of the lord has transforming power. Someone who is introduced
into public life with a very sad background suddenly becomes an icon of the community. Touched
by the hand of the Lord, everything becomes new. Such a life journey can be walked by anyone
of us by responding positively to the call of the Lord. Our unpleasant past can just be a stepping-
 stone to a bright future.
