                                      Women's Study Group: Fall semester
Pride, idolatry, sexual immorality, factions, and other such sins aren't just issues we're facing in the church today.
They're the same kinds of challenges that the church in Corinth was facing in Paul's day. God's Word has so
much to teach us!
Join us this fall as the Women's Fellowship studies Paul's letter to the Corinthian church and seeks to hear what
God is saying to us in our current context. We will be using the book 1 Corinthians: A 12-Week Study by Jay S.
Thomas. All SEPC ladies are invited for this time of fellowship, prayer, and study.
We will resume meeting on Tuesday, September 14 at 10:00 am for potluck and prayer. Childcare is provided. If
you have questions, please contact Lynn Hall (ldh5050@gmail.com) or Shelley Madueme
(shelleymadueme@gmail.com).

FOR REFLECTION BEFORE WORSHIP

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him
up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? For I am sure that neither death…nor things present nor
things to come…will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 8:31-33, 38-39

I cannot imagine living the Christian life on any other basis than this. If the Father loves me so much that he did not spare his
own Son but delivered him up to be crucified for me, no further guarantee is needed of his wholehearted and permanent
commitment to me and to my blessing. Whatever happens to me must be seen in that light. Yes, my deepest fears may become
realities. I may not be able to understand what God is doing in or to my life; he may seem to be hiding his face from me; my
heart may be broken. But can I not trust the One who demonstrated his love for me (Rom. 5:8). If he has done that, will he not
work all things together for my good? Will he withhold anything that is ultimately for the good of those who trust him? —

GATHERING FOR WORSHIP

WORDS OF PREPARATION

PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP – Romans 8:28-39
L - And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his
purpose.
P - For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the
firstborn among many brothers.
L - And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he
also glorified.
P - What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave
him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
L - Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.
P - Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died — more than that, who was raised — who is at the right hand of God,
who indeed is interceding for us.
L - Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
danger, or sword?
P - As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."

L - No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
P - For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,

L - nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our
Lord.

WE PRAISE YOU, LORD

CALL TO WORSHIP — Psalm 93:1
L – The Lord reigns. He is robed with majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and is armed with strength.

HYMN #64 – God, the Lord, a King Remaineth

PRAYER OF ADORATION

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. (next page continued)
                                                                  3
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

SHARING OF THANKSGIVING

OUR RETURN TO GOD, OUR SAVIOR

CALL TO CONFESSION — based on Hebrews 4:14, 16
L - Seeing that we have a great High Priest who has entered the inmost heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us therefore approach
the throne of grace with fullest confidence, that we may receive mercy for our failures and grace to help in the hour of need. In
the strength of this assurance, let us confess our sins to God.

REJOICE! #31 – God, Be Merciful to Me

SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON – Romans 8:9-11
L - You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does
not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your
spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised
Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

REJOICE! #33 - Grace

VULNERABILITY FOR SECRET BELIEVERS IN AFGHANISTAN—OUR FAMILY— HAS INCREASED TENFOLD.
     Source: Opendoorsusa.org, August 16, 2021
Our field is closely monitoring the situation in Afghanistan and again is asking for urgent prayer for the country and the
small group of secret believers there who follow Jesus in the country ranked No. 2 on Open Doors’ 2021 World Watch
     List
“It’s a heartbreaking day for the citizens of Afghanistan and an even more dangerous time to be a Christian,” says
Brother Samuel, Open Doors Field Director for Asia.
In the most current report he and our team of experts share what’s happening inside the country and again give
us specific ways we can pray as the Taliban takes hold and begins to enforce their strict interpretation of Shariah
     (Islamic) law.
Will you stop and pray with us? While the situation is dark and devastating, as God’s people, we have been called to
“look to the Lord and His strength” (1 Chron. 16:9). Right now, more than ever, Afghanistan needs urgent prayer from
     the global Church.

Five ways to pray for Afghanistan today
                                                   Opendoorsuk.org, August 16, 2021
 Please pray for the small group of believers in the country. They are walking on eggshells and are uncertain who to
trust. Pray that they find strength, wisdom, and supernatural peace in God’s promises.
 Pray for the displaced. A new wave of refugees is expected to come from Afghanistan to many parts of the Middle
East and the rest of the world. Pray for God’s protection and provision over them in their journeys.
 Pray for the women. Many women fear that the Taliban rule would mean they would be stripped of opportunities for
education. Women involved in education during the past years could also be at risk – pray for their protection.
 Pray for the sick. Though underreported in international media, Covid-19 cases are spiking in the country and
hospitals are limited in what they can offer. There is no certainty as to how the health-care system will be able to
sustain itself with the new Taliban government. Pray that the healthcare system will not collapse.
 Pray that the country will not be a haven for extremists. The Taliban government of 20 years ago are known enablers
of extremist Islamic organizations. With their newfound control over Afghanistan, the country could be host to a
          new generation of terror groups.
