PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP Aria Flor Peeters INTROIT Eternal God, before Your Throne E CALL TO WORSHIP Jon Hoganson We praise you, Lord! We give thanks to you with our whole heart! Great are your works, full of honor and majesty and studied by all who delight in them. The works of your hands are faithful and just. Your precepts are trustworthy. Our reverence for you is the beginning of wisdom. You are to be praised forever. E HYMN Lord, You Give the Great Commission Hymnal no. 584 PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND PARDON Pastor Grace Han We use a lot of words, Gracious God, but do little to turn them into deeds. Instead of being of one heart and soul, we choose sides and form groups of folks just like us. Blessed with great grace, we have trouble sharing it with those who need it the most. Forgive us, God of love as we step out of our shadows into your light. Restore us, as we reveal our brokenness. Hear us, as we proclaim Jesus Christ as our Lord and our God. (All offer prayers of confession in silence) This is the good news we have declare: God leads us out of the shadows to walk in the light of Christ. This is the word we have heard: our faithful God forgives our sins and raises us to new life. Thanks be to God. Amen. E THE PEACE All exchange signs and words of peace and reconciliation. RECOGNITION OF GRADUATES Eternal God, source of knowledge, wisdom, and truth, in your love you reveal the way, the truth, and the life. We pray for these and all graduates who finish their course of study. We thank you for all who taught and worked beside them, and for all who supported them along the way. Walk with these graduates as they move on to new endeavors. Take away any anxiety or confusion of purpose.
Strengthen their many talents and skills, and grant them boldness in the future you create, Where their energies can be gathered up and used for the good of all people; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ANTHEM Joshua! Kimberly Ingram/arr. Joe Milton, Wally Minko Trinity Choristers We’ve heard about the battle of Jericho, but just what do we really know about the people marching ‘cross that land? Mighty city, mighty foe! And oh! What strength it took to go and march, once they heard the radical plan! You best believe it was a radical plan! Joshua prayed and listened. Joshua followed God! Joshua led God’s people in the way that they should go! Joshua led God’s people right to the walls of Jericho! Right up to the city gates the people marched for Heaven’s sake, and listened as old Joshua gave the plan. Perhaps inside they were a state! But not once did they hesitate as Joshua said, “It’s time to make a stand!” What courage as they followed God’s com- mand! Days one through six they woke at dawn and marched around those mighty walls, the Ark displayed, the trumpets clear and loud! Day seven, they marched seven times, Then Joshua said, “The city’s yours!” People wondered what would happen now? No time to grieve; You best believe; The walls came tumblin’ down! CHILDREN’S TIME Holly Stowell Immediately following Children’s Time, elementary aged children are welcome to participate in Children’s Worship upstairs in room 206. Children will return to worship during the last hymn. SCRIPTURE LESSON Acts 4:23-31, Acts 13:1-3 Pew Bible, OT, page no. 122 & 131 Jon Hoganson 23 After they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard it, they raised their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth, the sea, and everything in them, 25 it is you who said by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant: ‘Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine vain things? 26 The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers have gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’ 27 For in this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness. 13 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a member of the court of Herod the ruler, and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. The Word of God for the People of God Thanks be to God. E GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (Please sing before and after the Gospel Lesson.)
E GOSPEL LESSON John 16:12-15 Pew Bible, NT, page no. 110 Pastor Grace Han 12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON “Praying for Boldness” Pastor Grace Han PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. What does it means for us today to be like the Acts church? In addi- tion to the sermon series, Dr. Allan Barnes is teaching an indepth class on the early church in Acts. We hope you will join us next Sunday at 10 AM in the Fellowship Hall as we continue this journey through the early church. It is with deep sadness that we share the death of Dennis Warren (Mac) McClellan on June 8, 2019.
