Reconsecration to the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary
March 25, 2021
On February 28, 2014, I consecrated the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary. At that time, the Diocese was facing serious legal issues
as well as a significant deficit in financial resources as a direct consequence. There
were many members of the Church who had become angry and alienated as a result
of sexual abuse in the Church. There has been a good deal of healing since then, but
currently, we are facing another crisis as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and its
lingering effects. Many parishioners have been impacted directly by the disease either by contracting the
disease itself or needing to quarantine as a result of being in contact with those who have it. Parishes have
experienced a limited number of parishioners coming to Mass for fear of contagion. Some parishioners
have lost employment and their income needed to provide for their families. Though COVID-19 appears
slowly to be lessening, due to mitigation efforts and the role our of vaccines, its impact remains an issue.
In light of this, I will once again renew the consecration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, seeking her
intercession for our diocese on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at St. Ann’s Cathedral during the Mass for the
Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. This special celebration with be at 5:30 PM. Also, as I requested
in 2014, I urge all pastors to likewise reconsecrate the territory of their parishes to the Immaculate Heart of
Mary.
