5th Sunday of Easter May 19, 2019 Dear Ones, Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to log into sustainislandhome.org to work on lowering your carbon imprint upon our hurting earth. It was interesting to watch the young 'uns in our midst nearly doing it instantly when the oldest among us did it much slower with lots of questions and muttering among ourselves. I love all of you... we are such a wonderful community! I finished reading : Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming by David Wallace-Wells. It's currently a NY Times best seller, and the Bishop is reading it as well. Here's the opening line of the book: "It is worse, much worse, than you think!" I'm terrified! We can do our part personally, be educated into what's happening, vote in ways that will protect our planet, and spread the word. My week was taken up with a number of pastoral emergencies that took all of Tuesday and Wednesday and a portion of Thursday. We had our Vestry meeting on Wednesday evening. Part of the biggest news from that meeting was that the Vestry voted unanimously to pass Hillary Kimsey on to the next steps in her process: Candidacy now, perhaps a Diaconal ordination in December, and priesthood ordination next summer!!!! There are no guarantees, but we've done our part to bless her on her journey. There were other conversations that were started in our vestry meeting: We may need to consider going to one service on Sunday mornings. I want to open this conversation. We will have a PRIDE booth at Pride this year as always, and we will be looking for community members to be involved, July 20 Evergreen Park. June 29th will be the parish wide training for Safeguarding God's People 9- 12. We may also offer the child version 1-4, but that hasn't been determined yet. But all of you who have keys to the church, let me repeat this in caps EVERYONE WHO HAS A KEY TO THE CHURCH (Altar guild members, choir members, symphony
people, symphony choir folks, board members, El!ghtened groups, brain injury folks, all of our NA groups, girl scout leaders, EVERYONE who has a key) must attend this training. A letter with specifics will be going out next week. I hope that each of you is having a great week. God bless you all! Here is a video from the Bishop on the subject of the Carbon Tracker.
