THE MINIBUS SERVICE 2020-2021
Minibus services to school are operated on five routes:
From and to Tunbridge Wells via Southborough
From Kings Hill via Mereworth and Hadlow
From Horsmonden via Brenchley and Matfield
From Ightham via Sevenoaks and Hildenborough
From Langton Green via Speldhurst
Please note that the pick up and drop off points and times detailed in this booklet may change depending
on demand in any academic year.
COVID 19
It is our intention to continue to run our minibus service as outlined below and in line with the most recent
government guidance which we will keep under review. Please note the following when considering
whether you wish to use this service*.
• It is not possible to fully socially distance pupils on the minibus due to the nature of the service.
• Pupils are encouraged to socially distance whilst waiting for the bus.
• The driver and ALL pupils must wear a face mask at all times on the bus
• Seating will be allocated in sibling and year group pods where appropriate.
• Hand sanitizer will be available on entering the bus and the bus will be ventilated as much as
possible.
• The buses will be cleaned after use.

The Tunbridge Wells/Southborough service runs five days per week both mornings and afternoons. The
Tunbridge Wells/Langton Green, Kings Hill, Horsmonden & Sevenoaks services run five mornings per week.
Full details regarding the timings, stops and costs of these services can be found below.
The Tunbridge Wells/Southborough afternoon bus leaves Somerhill at 4.40 on Mondays, Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Fridays with an earlier departure at 4.10 on Wednesdays. Pre-Prep children wishing to use
the afternoon bus service can stay on after the end of the school day and be cared for in clubs and/or After
School Care. Yardley Court and Derwent Lodge pupils in Years 3 and 4 taking the school bus are fully
supervised from 4.10 until the end of the school day enabling all year groups to use the bus services.
The minibus service can be used by children from Year 1 upwards.
Pre-Prep children are collected and escorted from the school bus in the mornings and are collected from
their clubs or After School Care and escorted to the afternoon bus. There is no charge for After School Care
for Pre-Prep children using the afternoon school bus.

Booking Booking is termly in advance via an online booking system. Priority is given to existing users and their siblings. Your invoice will follow within a few days and payment is required usually the week before term starts to confirm the place on bus. Subsequent terms fees will be added to your invoice. A waiting list is operated for popular routes. Please email reception@somerhill.org if you wish to be added to the waiting list. SOMERHILL MINIBUS CONDITIONS OF USE These conditions of use reflect the current Covid-19 government guidance and will be updated as required. Boarding A face mask may be worn by the driver. ALL pupils are required to wear a face mask at all time on the bus. Pupils will not be permitted to board the bus if they do not have a facemask. All pupils must sit in their designated seat only. Pupils must be able to carry on board all their own belongings as the driver will not be able to assist. Parents will be provided with anti-viral wipes and requested to wipe down the bus door handle. Disembarking Disposable facemasks must be put directly in the bins provided once you disembark. Re-usable facemasks must be placed in a named plastic bag and stored safely. Standard handwashing procedures will apply before entering school. Failure to comply with the driver’s instructions in relation to this or any other matter will result in the bus place being withdrawn and no refund given. Pick Up Please ensure that you are at the designated pick up spot in good time and that you stay with your child until the bus arrives. Should a pupil not arrive at their designated spot on time, the driver will endeavour to contact the parents directly to determine if arrival is imminent. If not, the driver has been instructed to leave to minimise disruption to the scheduled timetable. Drop Off For reasons of child safety, the driver is under strict instructions to only release your child to one or other of their parents at the bus stop unless we have been notified in advance/via email, that someone else such as a grandparent, nanny, au pair, elder sibling etc will collect them. If the person that we expect to collect your child is not at the bus stop, the driver will attempt to contact you via telephone. If they are unable to reach you then the driver has been instructed to return your child to school, where we will look after them until they are collected. Absence/Change of Plans
The driver will expect to see your child every day unless advised otherwise. If your child is unwell
and not attending school, please ensure you have advised the driver directly via the mobile number
detailed below to confirm that pick up is not required.
If for any reason your child is scheduled to be on the evening service but won’t be, kindly ensure
that you have advised the driver via the mobile and the School Office Team via the main school
