Baldwin Street Middle School How will you SOAR? e-Banner Newsletter May 7, 2021 From the Principals… Teacher Appreciation Week is one of our favorite weeks of the school year. Our amazing staff inspires us each day, and the gestures of gratitude shared by students and families mean more than you could know. Thank you for honoring our BMS team– they are the Best Middle School team ever! Today, we also celebrate National Lunch Hero Day. Our lunch staff has always been vital to helping us ensure students are able to learn. These past two years they have been even more essential! They provided meals last spring and summer in the cold, rain, and heat to families when they needed it most. From “hoagies and grinders” to “sloppy joe, slop, sloppy joes,” our lunch team provides delicious and healthy choices for our kids each day with love and care. The extra cleaning and spacing of students has also added to the lunch team’s already full plates. Like their pizza dough, they have risen to the occasion. As Adam Sandler said, “No student can escape the magic of Lunchlady Land.”

Students are assessed as they enter 7th grade and must be up-to-date before they can start school for their 7th grade year. As your 6th grader has their well-child check-ups and receives the updated immunizations, please obtain a copy of their updated official immunization record and give a copy to the BMS office anytime this year. (We are required to have a copy of this official document in their file.) Immunization Waivers ~ If you are a parent who chooses to waive immunizations for your child, please know that if you haven’t gotten a new waiver since your child turned 11, you will most likely need to get a new waiver which states Baldwin Street Middle School as the current school and also includes the new immunizations that were not previously required. Getting a new waiver requires making an appointment at the Ottawa County Department of Public Health 616.396.5266. Only waivers that are obtained this way are accepted as valid. If you have any questions or would like us to check on the current waiver, please contact Carol Coffey at 616.669-7750 or at ccoffey@hpseagles.net.
