Sushiladevi Deshmukh Senior College, Latur With the generous encouragement and support from the NAAC, Bengaluru, the IQAC of , Manjara Charitable Trust’s Smt. Sushiladevi Deshmukh Senior College, Latur organized NAAC Sponsored One Day Online National Level Conference On “Revised Assessment and Accreditation Framework of NAAC: An Approach” Saturday, 16th January, 2021 at 10.30 a.m. The NAAC Sponsored One Day Online National Level Conference received huge response from stakeholders from institutions across the country. The Online National Level Conference was attended on YouTube Live streaming by the participants. The event started with an introductory remark by Dr. Ajay Patil, Hon’ble Principal, Smt. Sushiladevi Deshmukh Senior College, Latur. Wherein he extended his warm welcome to the Delegates, Inaugurator and Resource persons of the Online National Level Conference Inaugurator: Hon. Dr. Udhav Bhosle Vice-Chancellor, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, Keynote Speaker: Hon. Dr. Devender Kawday Deputy Advisor, NAAC, Bangalore , Dr. Bharat Shinde, Principal, Vidya Pratishtan’s Arts, Science and Commerce College, Baramati Dist. Pune, Dr. Rohidas Nitonde, Coordinator, IQAC, MCP Mandal’s Shri. Shivaji Mahavidyalaya, Parbhani, Dr. Mamta Rani, Principal, MMDM College, Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Dr. SasiKanta Dash, Principal, Tagore Government Arts and Science College, Pudducherry., Dr. R. T. Bedre, Director, UGC, HRDC, Dr. Harisinh Gour University, Sagar (Madhya Pradesh). He emphasized that the criterion prescribed for NAAC accreditation is so objective, holistic and comprehensive calling for sufficient focus on each and every aspect so as to meet the current requirements and global standards in the field of higher education. He appealed to the entire faculty, non-teaching staff, students and other stake holders to work collectively to showcase college’s positive aspects in order to fulfill NAAC requirements with a hope to bag a promising grade in the ensuing cycle. In the Inaugural Address, Dr. Udhav Bhosle Vice-Chancellor, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, stressed upon the need of developing a quality consciousness and importance of accreditation for higher institutions. He said that Accreditation status of an institution is a key indicator that reflects upon its overall
quality and reputation. It also helps in building perception about the institute. He pointed out that Quality in Education is a continuous & cyclic process. Dr. Devender Kawday, Deputy Adviser, NAAC gave a detailed presentation on Online Assessment and Accreditation Methodology in Revised Accreditation Framework. He focused on the core values, vision, and mission and how NAAC facilitates the HEI to climb the quality ladder. He explained in detail the seven criterions, key indicators and the subsequent metric involved in the manual. He further briefed about the optional metrics, its utility to the HEIs with related rules to be followed while opting the metrics. He briefed about the registration process, concept of IIQA, related documents to be submitted during IIQA process and the timeline for HEI to respond to the clarification. He responded to the Questions and doubts raised by the participants, Principals & IQAC coordinators from various Colleges of the country discussed their difficulties and got their doubts resolved. Dr. Bharat Shinde, Principal, Vidya Pratishtan’s Arts, Science and Commerce College, Baramati Dist. Pune , in his presentation explained about Revised Assessment and Accreditation Framework Criterion I, II and III. He discussed the issues related to Criterion I, II and III and Student Satisfaction Survey. He explained the process of preparation of the self-study report and importance of filling of SSR. He explained about the various Key Indicator involved in the above three criterions and types of questions asked in SSR citing examples. He responded to the Questions and doubts raised by the participants, Principals & IQAC coordinators from various Colleges of the country discussed their difficulties and got their doubts resolved. Shivaji Mahavidyalaya, Parbhani conducted a post lunch session on Revised Assessment and Accreditation Framework Criterion IV, V, VI and VII. He discussed the issues related to Revised Assessment and Accreditation Framework Criterion IV, V, VI and VII. He spoke out the experiences of the participants who wish to bring out positive change in their institutions. He discussed about the several issues which we have to tackle which are there in NAAC Manuals and SSR Templates. He has talked about the difficulties faced and observations. The QlMs and QnMs don’t require a lot of data, just having MCQ questions. He also focused on the additional benefit of Opt Out Mechanism. He advised all not to be generic but be specific while representing the institution. At the end of the session, a Q&A session was held, where Dr. Rohidas Nitonde cleared number of doubts of the participants. Dr. Mamta Rani, Principal, MMDM College, Muzaffarpur (Bihar) conducted a session on What should be the Best Practices that would fetch good marks in NAAC. She discussed in
detail why the best practices are evaluated during NAAC Accreditation? The purpose is to contribute to the National Development and the Institute. The uniqueness of institute is well reflected through Best practices and how the institute is different from others. There should be continuity in Best Practices. She also questioned Why NAAC?. NAAC promotes excellence in Higher Education. How much the institution has achieved throughout the last five years that is evaluated in NAAC. So Best Practices is one of the most important in NAAC. She has also discussed how to make a report of the best practices and shared some of the Best Practices for example “Be My Child”, adopted by Girl College. Another Best Practice was from Kerala ‘My Tree’ a project run by the institution. The students were given a plant, a tree to plant and look after the plant. It was to associate students with Nature. She has published LangLit online Journal with ISSN number. The research papers were contributed by the participants. Dr. SasiKanta Dash, Principal, Tagore Government Arts and Science College, Pudducherry conducted a session on Skill Enhancement and New Education Policy. He has spoke about the Quality which we are all missing. He has shared his experiences as a Principal of the institution He shared the quotes of Mahatma Gandhi, swami Vivekananda. If the Skill is high, the country is developed and if the skill is low, the country is under developing. What is skill? Skill is experience. Skill is training. Whatever you have learnt out through your experiences becomes a skill. He also discussed Types of skills and Skill development Decadal Overview, Hard skills and soft skills. Why the skill is important in this century? How skill be enhanced? We talk about quality here. But he raised a question whether the bureaucracy, politicians, an administrative structure allow you to perform? They will talk of the quality. Handling a college is a topmost difficulty. The basic problems of a college principal is to provide the facility of water, electricity, classroom, labs, student’s disturbances from this where are you going to get a quality? How any of us are satisfied in our day to day life when we are going to a college? Whether UGC Secretary will understand? Only 6% of budget is allotted to the education. What is NAAC? NAAC is nothing but a body. If we follow all the parameters put by NAAC, every institute will get A grade. Within the limitations and prospects we have to work hard . Dr. R. T. Bedre, Director, UGC, HRDC, Dr. Harisinh Gour University, Sagar (Madhya Pradesh) in Valedictory Session shared his views on education policy and the role of NAAC. He discussed in detail the history and changes in Higher education. He raised a question on the policies of State Govt. and the management system. What does a State Govt. pay you apart from salary and scholarship/EBC to the students? Not a single penny is granted /sanctioned for Infrastructure. NAAC has to make some revisions and amendments in framework also, as two states are not alike. Finally, Dr. Mallikarjun Karajgi, Coordinator, IQAC proposed vote of thanks. He expressed special gratitude to Dr. Devender Kawday, Deputy Advisor, NAAC and team of Resource Persons for their informative and useful presentations. He also expressed gratitude to the University and College administration for their constant encouragement and support in conducting the Conference and participants in making the Conference a grand success.
