2 BANANA SHIRE COUNCILMESSAGE FROM MAYOR
NEV FERRIER
Rural and regional communities are a tremendous place to live, work
and play and one of the key factors that make them such terrific areas to
call home are the myriad of community, cultural and sporting groups that
provide valuable facilities and services.
These groups do not survive without the generous time and energy
invested into them by volunteers.
These volunteers go about their work, knowing they are contributing
towards the betterment of their communities. They do what they do
because they have a passion for their pursuits and they want others to be
able to also enjoy the activities they love. Never do they seek out personal
recognition.
But it is important that volunteers – the champions of our communities-
receive some recognition and reward for their efforts.
The Banana Shire Australia Day Awards are just one way the value of
these volunteers are celebrated.
We all know many people who go above and beyond for their communities
or their committees, and I encourage everybody to take the time to
nominate an individual and/or group for these awards.
Winning an award is a remarkable achievement, but being nominated is
also a significant reward and proves to the volunteer that their efforts are
greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Nev Ferrier
