January-February2020 The Irish Culture Club of Delaware 302irish@gmail.com https://irishde.org P.O. Box 3375, Wilmington DE 19804 President’s Message Hello Everyone, Happy New Year to all! We hope your holidays were great! As a club we look forward to 2020 and wish our members, family and friends a healthy and prosperous year. As you are all aware, the clock is ticking down to our favorite time of the year! We have been preparing for our many upcoming events this year. We have our annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Hooley coming up on Saturday, March 14. We hope to see everyone in attendance! Please make arrangements to get there early to get a good seat at the parade—or better yet, plan on marching with the Club! The Club is also planning to march in the Philadelphia and New York City parades. Details on the New York parade are still being planned. However, we have our plans set for the Philly parade. Join us! The officers, board members and committee chairs of ICCD are always looking for ways to improve our annual events and create new ones. We can only do this through the strength and commitment of our members. Please plan on attending our general meetings held monthly on the third Tuesday of every month and bring a friend or two for a nice night out! Membership dues are due now for 2020. You can renew (or join) through our website irishde.org or by mailing a check to our P.O. box. On behalf of the Club, I would like to thank the ICCD Parade Committee for all their planning and hard work for this year’s upcoming parade. This takes many hours of dedication to create such a great parade for the community. I also want to thank all the volunteers and those who made our Children’s Christmas party and our annual Christmas dinner such a great success. I also want to apologize for the lack of a newsletter last month. We will try harder in the future to make sure our bimonthly newsletter is created in a timely way. It’s going to be a great year, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at the parade and other events throughout the year, as well as seeing you at our monthly meetings. Current and future members are always welcome and encouraged to attend our meetings. Hope to see you all soon! Slainte, Jimmy Mallon

Our Christmas Events Were A Big Hit! A special thanks to Nora Smith and Eileen McKeown for giving us another great Children’s Christmas Party in 2019! Every year, they put together such a wonderful event for our kids! The kids loved the party, which featured face painting and a balloon maker and music. Santa Claus was there too, and all children in attendance received gifts from Santa! A big THANK YOU to Catherine Rooney’s for all their support of ICCD, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year! Then, there was the annual Christmas Dinner for our adult members. We’d like to thank Seven Rings for performing at our annual Christmas Dinner in December. They helped make the night a big success! We’d also like to thank the Paul Mahoney’s—Jr. and Sr.—for their help. Of course, without the great staff of Catherine Rooney’s—in particular Gerry McCoy—we couldn’t have had Christmas Dinner! Kara Briggs won the Phillies Opening Day tickets. In fact, everyone left with a gift! Now that’s a Christmas Dinner! And now, for a few photos…
