Virgin flights from Melbourne to Cairns and return. Scenic flight from Horn Island to Cairns. All taxes included. Heritage Tours conducts the 4WD Safari. The safari vehicle is chosen both for passenger comfort and ability to handle the sometimes harsh terrain encountered in remote areas. Quality Touring Coach. We will be travelling in a purpose built Isuzu off road 4WD tour vehicle with air conditioning, comfortable forward facing reclining seats, footrests, retractable seatbelts, panoramic windows, road cam and on-board toilet. There is a PA System, Satellite portable phone and contact with Royal Flying Doctors for our safety and peace of mind. With maximum of 24 passengers, we will have the ultimate opportunity to enjoy Cape York at its best. We are promised nothing short of a high-class adventure into remote Australia on a unique and quality tour. The accommodation is varied, with most places having ensuite bathrooms. Sovereign Hotel Cooktown has maximum of 4 twin share rooms. If necessary, they can add a roll away bed in the queen rooms. Musgrave Station has 5 basic rooms with ensuite. Once these rooms are filled, twin share rooms with shared facilities will be used. The Heritage Motel Weipa has 14 motel rooms with ensuite bathroom. Bramwell Station has 11 rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Once these rooms are filled, basic rooms with shared facilities will be used. Seisia Holiday Park has 13 rooms with ensuite bathroom available. Once these rooms are filled, basic rooms with shared facilities will be used. Gateway Resort on Horn Island has 14 motel rooms with ensuite bathroom. Our overnight accommodation quite often reflect the unique nature of the sparsely inhabited regions in which we travel. • This tour is limited to a maximum of 14 rooms at each overnight stop • • Maximum number of passengers in the 4WD tour vehicle is 25 • Luggage restrictions apply. 1 small soft travel bag up to 10kg per person, maximum size 300mm x 300mm x 700mm as space is limited. DAY 1 Monday 17th August, 2020 MELBOURNE TO CAIRNS We start our amazing adventure being picked up from home, and chauffeur driven to Melbourne Airport boarding our direct flight to Cairns. Upon our arrival we will be met by our O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours tour directors and take a short drive into the city to our accommodation situated just 1 block from the Cairns Esplanade. Free time this afternoon to relax, walk along the Esplanade and unwind before meeting for our first dinner together. Lunch at own arrangements and cost / Refreshments on flight OVERNIGHT: Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, CAIRNS DAY 2 Tuesday 18th August, 2020 CAIRNS TO COOKTOWN After an early breakfast, we are picked up by our 4WD vehicle to start our Cape York adventure. We travel north along the scenic Captain Cook Highway, through the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Then making our way along the jungle shrouded Bloomfield Track (road conditions permitted), stopping off at the unique Lion’s Den Hotel, and the mysterious Black Mountain, arriving at the old gold port of Cooktown, where we visit Captain Cooks Landing, before settling in our accommodation. OVERNIGHT: Sovereign Motel, COOKTOWN DAY 3 Wednesday 19th August, 2020 COOKTOWN TO MUSGRAVE Heading west into the outback, we visit Split Rock, Aboriginal Rock Art. Then on to Lakefield National Park (road conditions permitted), a haven for the many birds and animals native to this area. Lagoons, billabongs, and wide river lakes are home to both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. The afternoon finds us arriving at our overnight accommodation at The Old Musgrave telegraph station. DAY 4 Thursday 20th August, 2020 MUSGRAVE TO WEIPA This morning, we continue north stopping off at the historic frontier gold town of Coen and the picturesque Archer River, before making our way to the bauxite-mining town of Weipa. Enjoy the spectacular sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria. OVERNIGHT: Heritage Motel, WEIPA DAY 5 Friday 21st August, 2020 WEIPA TO BRAMWELL This morning we can join the Wildlife Eco River Cruise exploring the eco systems and local culture of Weipa. Cruise the harbour, the Embley River to Hay Point and learn about the local culture, history and view the abundance of wildlife this area has to offer. As the cruise is limited to 17 passengers, there is an option to do a Mine Tour in place of the cruise. On the tour we will learn the history behind Weipa and visit points of interest. On this fascinating tour, we will get up close and personal to the 190 tonne Belly Dumper Haul Trucks while touring the working mine site and follow the rail and conveyor dock (Covered footwear is required for the Mine Tour). After lunch, we head for our overnight accommodation at a true blue Aussie cattle station, Bramwell Station. You are required to advise O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours of your nominated tour choice on booking otherwise you will be automatically booked on the River Cruise. DAY 6 Saturday 22nd August, 2020 BRAMWELL TO SEISIA After an early start, we head north travelling along part of the Old Telegraph Track to arrive at Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim, and enjoy this unique area with its’ enchanting waterfall. Then northwards across the Jardine River, to arrive at Cape York! We will be staying at Seisia which is ideally located, being in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, the departure point for the ferry to Thursday Island and a famous fishing spot. Our accommodation is in cottages at the Seisia Holiday Park. OVERNIGHT: Seisia Holiday Park, SEISIA
DAY 7 Sunday 23rd August, 2020 CAPE YORK An unforgettable day - we will start by standing at the very top of mainland Australia! We then visit Somerset (road conditions permitted), once the home of the legendary Jardine family. We have lunch on palm fringed Anchorage Beach which overlooks the Albany Passage. A walk along the beach completes our adventures before returning to Seisia. OVERNIGHT: Seisia Holiday Park, SEISIA DAY 8 Monday 24th August, 2020 CAPE YORK TO HORN ISLAND An early morning departure asd we cruise through island studded straits to explore our northern community, Thursday Island. Here we will be taken on an informative guided bus tour of Thursday Island and its picturesque harbour, once home to the romantic pearl lugger fleet. Later this afternoon we take a water taxi to Horn Island and our accommodation at the Gateway Torres Strait Resort. DAY 9 Tuesday 25th August, 2020 HORN ISLAND TO CAIRNS Today we take a tour of Horn Island before visiting the Torres Strait Heritage Museum. Late afternoon we board our plane for a scenic flight back to Cairns Airport. On arrival in Cairns, we will be taken into the city for the next 3 nights accommodation. OVERNIGHT: Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, CAIRNS DAY 10 Wednesday 26th August, 2020 CAIRNS FREE DAY A free day today to relax and enjoy! Our hotel is right in the city and close to the beautiful Cairns Esplanade where there are plenty of scenic walking tracks or shops. Lunch at own expense and arrangement OVERNIGHT: Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, CAIRNS DAY 11 Thursday 27th August, 2020 FRANKLAND ISLANDS CRUISE This morning we enjoy a drive south of Cairns through rainforest clad mountain ranges and open fields of sugar cane, to join a day River & Reef Cruise to Frankland island. The Frankland Group National Park is a wonderful place to enjoy snorkelling right from the beach swimming with a vast array of tropical fish – keep an eye out for Nemo! There are often giant turtles to view from the comfort of the semi-submersible or glass bottom boat. We join the marine naturalists for an informative and fascinating Island Discovery walk through the forest, sandy beaches and the reef’s nursery. We cruise up the Mulgrave River to return to the mainland, and coach back into Cairns after a great day. OVERNIGHT: Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, CAIRNS
DAY 12 Friday 28th August, 2020 CAIRNS TO MELBOURNE Our last glorious day in Far North Queensland. This morning we have time to relax and do that last minute shopping, before arriving at the Cairns Airport for our flight home. We are sure there will have many stories to tell of our Cape York Adventure. As always our chauffeurs await our arrival in Melbourne for transfer home. PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICY Payment of funds confirms your acceptance of O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours conditions of travel for this tour. Prices include GST and all taxes. Balance due on invoice approximately 90 days prior to departure. Deposit is non-refundable. Cancellation 90 to 60 days before tour departure date 50% Refund of Tour Cost Cancellation 59 to 31 days before tour departure date 20% Refund of Tour Cost Cancellation 30 to 1 days before tour departure date No Refund On or after tour date departure No Refund Travel Insurance is not compulsory, however is highly recommended and available from our office. To maximize your experience on Cape York, you will need to be fit and able to be capable of boarding the 4WD vehicle and navigating the uneven surfaces under foot. Walking frames are not recommended. CONDITIONS OF TRAVEL Any special passenger requirements must be notified to O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours upon booking. No passenger will be permitted to embark on or continue the tour while their physical or mental condition is, in the opinion of any representative of O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours, such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves, or whereby they become objectionable to other passengers, or they become a hazard to themselves or other passengers. Whilst on tour with O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours should a passenger require medical attention, discharge papers must be provided to a representative of O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours before you are able to re-join the tour. O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours will not be responsible for expenses resulting in such persons being precluded from completing the tour for any such reason. No refunds or transfers will be given on any unused portions of the itinerary. It is a requirement of O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours that each passenger is able to negotiate coach steps without the aid of the coach crew or other passengers. Any passenger who requires assistance for any of the above is required to travel with a companion capable of providing all necessary assistance. Passengers who are smokers, have a CPAP machine or snore, unless travelling with a companion, will be required to pay the single supplement premium for the sole use of a room. Items of a personal nature such as medical expenses, mini bar, beverages, laundry service, room service, internet usage, telephone calls, and any optional extras are not included in your tour price. All passengers are required to co-operate with the seat rotation program determined by O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours tour directors. O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours and Heritage Torus reserves the right to vary any accommodation, price or other features of the tour at any time at their own discretion.
