Shape Your Future “All students can learn and succeed, but not on the same day in the same way.” William G. Spady Senior Programmes 2021
WHY an Integrated programme? With so much change and innovation occurring, our students are entering a different world with new jobs and learning opportunities taking shape all the time. Over the past century, routine jobs have been disappearing and the demand for flexibility and thinking has grown. We want our students to be able to LEARN, think critically, problem solve, collaborate across networks, be adaptable and have initiative, be entrepreneurial, have effective oral and written communication to enable the access and analysis of information, while being curious and inspired about the society they live in. Description Students who wish to LEARN in an innovative and collaborative way to prepare themselves for the real world would benefit from this project-led programme. Students will learn to think critically, problem solve, collaborate, be adaptable through self-selected projects. Students will be confident and effective in oral and written communication, and be curious and inspired about the world they live in. How does this link to NCEA? Quotes from students undertaking Shape Your Future “Building our ideas by 'playing' and taking trips to have real life experiences has been awesome” “The project we are doing now; 'Future Design' just the way we have the freedom to solve any problem that we want is great” “I have learnt that I can be independent with my work” “Working on a topic of our choice has been working well for me. I also have been learning more because I am more interested in what I am doing” “I am really enjoying the freedom to be independent with my learning” ‘Other’ subjects (option or core) In Level 1 students will spend 24 hours in the programme on a 10-day timetable. For the remainder of the time they will be in their selected subjects – whether it is ‘core’ or ‘option’ subjects. For example, if a student wishes to pursue Science as an academic option because they require Physics, Chemistry or Biology at Level 2 and beyond for their career choice, they may choose to study Science as a core subject. Levels 2 and 3 students will spend 16 hours in the programme on a 10-day timetable. Use of technology There is an expectation that all students will have an appropriate digital device available to them, preferably a laptop.
‘Shape Your Future’ is designed to embed the following 6 areas of deep learning: Deep Learning Competencies CREATIVITY Having an ‘entrepreneurial eye’ for economic and social opportunities, asking the right inquiry questions to generate novel ideas, and leadership to pursue those ideas and turn them into action.
