WELCOME OLDREPTHEATRE.CO.UK | welcome We are delighted to be welcoming back audiences to The Old Rep Theatre after such a long time. We have a packed Autumn/Winter schedule featuring a number of re-scheduled performances and some brand-new shows. We have all missed the theatre as there really is nothing like experiencing the magic of live entertainment with an audience around you. It’s ability to lift and entertain people even in times of difficulty is unparalleled. This season we are delighted to announce that our Christmas spectacular this year is Alice in Wonderland. This adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale follows the story of Alice, a young, curious girl who follows a white rabbit down a rabbit hole and into Wonderland. There, she encounters some of the strangest and most peculiar creatures, including the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. With songs old and new, and a brand-new script with a talented cast of 25 performers Alice in Wonderland is set to be a spectacular experience that we hope will be enjoyed. Come on an adventure this Christmas and remember don’t be late for this very important date! We have a number of performances presented by Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) including two Musical showcases and two gritty dramas, Antigone and Boudica. We also welcome BOA Stage and Screen Production students to our theatre to learn new skills backstage and front of house in the oldest repertory theatre in the country. Other highlights this season include comedy from Jenny Eclair, Simon Brodkin, Mark Steel and Iain Stirling and the festive favourite A Christmas Carol. We would like to say a big thank you to our supporters and audience for all your support this past year. Upon your return our Team will do our best to reassure your safety and comfort. OLDREPTHEATRE.CO.UK | Comedy Seann Walsh: Back from the Bed Saturday 18th September, 8pm Hello, Seann here. Did you know that the comedians have to write their own blurb? I guess I can start with the fact I renamed the tour. Sticking with ‘Same Again?’ felt a bit triggering after the year we’ve had. So it is now called Back from the Bed. Some of the material will be the same as I had always planned and some of it will be new because it will be difficult to avoid mentioning the last year in which millions of decent people tragically lost their lives to TikTok. The previous leg of this tour got a lot of standing ovations, which was pleasing. Either that or they were leaving early. As seen on The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV 2), Live At The Apollo (BBC Two), Tonight at The London Palladium (ITV) and Celebrity Juice (ITV 2). And what it’s like to be chased by Donald Trump’s bodyguards, how to make the police laugh while they’re arresting you, and what to do when you’re outed as a Jew by the Ku Klux Klan. Simon is one of Britain’s most loved comedians following his smash hit BBC shows Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show & Well Funny People, Channel 4’s award-nominated Britain’s Biggest Hoaxer and multiple TV appearances (Live at the Apollo, Sunday Night at the Palladium, The COMEDY John Bishop Christmas Show, Children In Need & Channel 4’s Comedy Gala). Mark Steel: Every Little Thing’s Gonna Be Alright OLDREPTHEATRE.CO.UK | Comedy Saturday 9th October, 8pm A few years ago, it seemed unlikely that the UK would vote to leave the EU; we had a reasonable opposition to the Tory Government; Donald Trump was a buffoon who surely wasn’t going to beat Hillary Clinton and Mark was living the married suburban ideal, since then it’s all gone to absolute s***! But don’t worry as Mark thinks Every Little Thing’s Gonna Be Alright. Mark’s sell-out show Who Do I Think I Am, revealed his natural father was a world backgammon champion. Now the star of BBC Radio 4’s Mark Steel’s in Town, and newspaper columnist of the year is touring a show which is guaranteed to make the world seem even more mental than it is.
