Schedule ADVANCE™ Sydney Royal Dog Show 12 - 23 April 2019 Sydney Showground Sydney Olympic Park www.rasnsw.com.au
Welcome from the President The spirit of friendly competition comes alive at the Sydney Royal Easter Show each year when Australia’s agricultural community comes together to celebrate. Thank you for joining this community and entering a Sydney Royal competition. Today the Sydney Royal competitions held at the Show attract close to 30,000 entries each year from skilled breeders, producers and craftspeople across the country. Because our competitions set benchmarks in excellence and encourage development and innovation, they continue to be an important part of Australia’s agricultural industry. Winning a prestigious Sydney Royal medal not only confirms the exceptional standard of your entry, it can also bring commercial advantages. Major award winners have the benefit of using Sydney Royal medal artwork to promote their success in marketing campaigns. Every year we work hard to evolve the Sydney Royal competitions. Our commitment to adapting to consumer and industry trends keeps our competitions relevant and encourages world-class excellence amongst entrants. The integrity of the competitions relies on the professionalism and ethical standards of our judges, and I thank them for the dedication and knowledge they share with us. I also extend thanks to our Stewards, generous sponsors, our Committees and supporters. I wish you the very best of luck this year, and whether your entry is an award winner or not I hope you benefit from your Sydney Royal experience. Robert Ryan OAM President, Royal Agricultural Society of NSW

DOGS 17 KIM HADDON (QLD) Sweepstakes Kim’s love for her dogs goes back to early childhood, with her family owning a purebred Miniature Smooth Dachshund, German Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog and Toy Poodles. Her mother Jill Flack, was a respected horse Judge and bred Arabian Horses on her stud in Toowoomba. It was growing up and through practical experience that she was taught the importance of form, function, type, balance, soundness and movement. Kim’s involvement with purebred dogs span the past 44 years, having joined Dogs QLD in 1973, involving herself in Obedience trialling and Obedience displays at Brisbane Royal. In 1975, she bred her first purebred litter of German Shepherds under her mother’s prefix “Millavale” and from this litter came one of Australia’s Top German Shepherds at the time. She continued to breed, show and trial German Shepherds for the next 15 years under her own “Zeigan” prefix. During this time she also bred, Exhibited and trialled Rottweilers for 11 years. In 1984 she became a founder for the Bernese Mountain Dog in Australia and have continued to breed and exhibit Bernese Mountain Dogs for the past 34 years, importing and exporting to many countries throughout the world. As a founder and President of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Queensland she attended the world’s first Bernese Mountain Dog Health Symposium held in Langenthal, Switzerland in 2000, discussing breeding and health issues affecting the Bernese Mountain Dog worldwide. In 2006 she fell in love with Pomeranians and has imported Pomeranians from five different countries for her breeding program to improve the breed in Australia. She bred the number 4 Pomeranian in America in 2014 and subsequently was invited to compete at Westminster in 2015. She has also bred and shown Jack Russell Terriers. Zeigen Kennels, have bred well over 75 Champions in her chosen breeds. She is currently the President of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Queensland, on the Committee of the Darling Downs Kennel Club and is on the Inaugural National Drafting Committee. She commenced judging in 1997 and has judged extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand. Becoming an “All Breeds Judge” is a dream fulfilled and she will continue to honour this title, by always giving her honest and earnest opinion. VYVYAN MANNION (QLD) Obedience Vyvyan first became involved in the dog world in 1983, when she attended Obedience Classes conducted by Murrumba Dog Obedience Club - now known as Caboolture Dog Sports Obedience Club. It wasn’t long before she became an Instructor and Committee Member at the Club and in 1997 she applied and was accepted as a Trainee Obedience Judge, attaining licenses to not only judge Novice to Utility Dog Excellent Obedience but also Endurance Tests and Dances with Dogs (DWD). Retiring to Nanango, Vyvyan became involved with the local Kennel Club, where she was appointed Club Secretary in 2006. She has gained numerous titles competing with her dogs in Obedience, Endurance Test, Dances with Dogs and Rally O. In October 2018, Vyvyan obtained her license to judge Rally O. She has judged at Competitions in South-East Queensland, along Queensland’s coastline, in country New South Wales, at the Brisbane Exhibition (Obedience and DWD) and in the Northern Territory. This year marks 20 years in Obedience judging. She is looking forward to her upcoming appointment at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. MARYANNE FAZEKAS (NSW) Obedience Maryanne has been involved in Obedience training and trialling for over 25 years, and presently shares her home with two Border Collies. She has been an Obedience Judge since 2004 and a Rally-O Judge since its launch in Australia in 2012. She has judged extensively in metropolitan and country NSW, QLD and Tasmania. Her appointments have included NSW State Titles, Queensland State Titles and German Shepherd Nationals. Maryanne is honoured to be judging at the Sydney Royal Dog Show and wishes all competitors the very best of luck. She hopes that everyone has a truly enjoyable and successful time across all the disciplines they are competing in. CARL RANFORD (NZ) Agility Carl’s passion for dogs came at a young age, from as long as he can remember he wanted a dog. His wish was granted at the age of 7 when he rescued a Golden Labrador Retriever. His first experiences of having a dog in the family was mixed. Bob was a friendly dog but came with his fair share of issues. He didn’t think the family were prepared for such a mischievous runaway dog. Even though he was a handful, Carl enjoyed his company and he knew the desire to own and train a dog was his true calling. Fast forward to 2018 and he has now been involved in dog Agility for over 20 years. Initially Carl joined and competed in dog Obedience in 1995 which lead him to Agility. He fell in love with the fast pace sport. Carl joined the NZ Agility Judges’ panel in 2009, as he wanted to give back to the sport. Carl has judged and competed in most of New Zealand. He has also judged in Sydney on several occasions. Carl is a Systems Engineer and covers a wide variety of ICT. Carl likes to spend time with his family and he also likes to play Texas Hold’em and fits in a game whenever he can. Carl and his partner Catherine have two children, Kyra, 8, and Corban, 6, they join him to most dog trials and both are members of JDT (Junior Dog Training). They enjoy training and competing in the ring, currently they have six border collies, with three of these actively competing. He is looking forward to bringing some New Zealand flare and getting to see some awesome team work. SUE ELLER (QLD) Agility Way back in the1980’s Sue was a happy owner of a GSD and they were competing in Obedience in Sydney where she grew up. Sue later moved to the Gold Coast and joined the local dog club. It was around this time that she watched her first Agility Competition and it looked amazing. Most of the dogs in that Competition were Border Collies but she decided to give it a go. Bonnie found it hard to be competitive as she had to jump very large heights for her size. So in 2001 she got her first Border Collie “Flash”. They attended their first Nationals in Canberra and they made two finals. Since then Sue has competed with another four Border Collies and have made the finals numerous times at States and National Level. Her dogs are amazing, always giving her 110%. Sue have been an Agility instructor for many years training beginners who just wish to have fun with their dogs, as well as the experienced competitor. She gets much joy from learning and watching both pupils and dogs getting "the most" out of the sport. Sue gained her Agility Judge’s licence in 2006 and she has had the pleasure of judging the NSW Nationals Victorian Nations and up and down the East Coast. Sue would like to wish all the competitors and their dogs the best of luck in 2019 and look forward to the honour of judging at the 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show. May the Agility Gods shine down on each and every one.
