OUR PASSION With over 40 years of experience in the industry, there's no doubt that we love professional theatre – but we also have a strong passion to work with young people to inspire the future of performing arts in South Australia. Our skilled team work closely with schools, colleges, and universities to build and maintain stage sets that bring local productions to life. The Scenery Workshop would love to collaborate ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE with you on your next production – no matter how big or small the job! Our 4 decades of experience ensures that we can produce and assist with set builds, set maintenance and other requirements that can fit even the smallest of budgets.
OUR SERVICES CARPENTRY For all things wood – from small props and rehearsal furniture to full stage construction and exhibitions. ENGINEERING AND AUTOMATION Completely automated floors, revolves, scenery trusses and lifts, metal fabrication, in steel or aluminium. SCULPTURE AND PROPS ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE Hand and set props in all forms and all mediums. SCENIC PAINTING Experienced artists can produce a wide range of finishes on canvas, wood, metal and polystyrene. HIRE Wardrobe racks, puzzle boxes, tour crates, scenery trollies and much more! SET ELECTRICS Bringing the stage and set to life with automation, lighting, LED, and pneumatic systems.
CONCORDIA COLLEGE In 2020 we brought Concordia College’s production of 'High School Musical’ to life. Working closely with the production team, we were able to produce set pieces within their budget and ultimately delivered quality work that can be used by the school for decades to come. Our team provided: ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE • 1x Raised platform 1.2m W x 7.2m L x 1.8m H • 3x Bleachers blocks (2.4m W x 1.6m H) • 3x Garden benches • 1x Locker room flat (flown wall 2.4m x 2.4m) • 3x Cafeteria tables • 1x D.J. booth
MARRYATVILLE HIGH SCHOOL Going behind the scenes, our team recently conducted repairs, sound and lighting updates, and safety upgrades for Marryatville High School’s ‘Forge Performing Arts Centre’. Work was completed within just 2 days, with the theatre now ready for their next production. Our team provided: ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE • 1x Jacobs ladder security gate • 1x new Cyclorama screen installation • 10x masking legs/drapes adjustments • Overhaul of existing sound system • Speaker position updates for max sound quality • Clear documentation for use of sound system • Service and installation of new on-stage lighting
MOUNT CARMEL COLLEGE On the smaller end of the production scale, we created a dynamic, rotating set piece for Mount Carmel College’s production of ‘Seventeen’. As with all our work, this piece was designed with the performers’ safety in mind, while still being easy to transport and assemble. Our team provided: ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE • 1x rotating ‘roundabout’ platform piece
UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE We are currently collaborating with the University of Adelaide to bring their 2021 production of ‘Mamma Mia! The Musical’ to life at the Scott Theatre. Having built the set for the 2002, 2009 and 2018 Australian touring productions, this will be our fourth build of the much-loved musical. Our team is providing: ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE • 1x painted wood and flag stone show deck (11m W x 7.3m D) • 2x set piece trucks for the Villa Donna façade • Small truck: 3.5m W x 3.8m H • Large truck: 4.2m W 3.8m H
THEATRE MAINTENANCE We also offer theatre services for you auditorium or stage, from supply and installation to maintenance. Our team can inspect and service existing systems, conduct safety audits of theatre spaces, or install new sound and lighting equipment. We have expertise in all areas of technical stage ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE theatre and we can supply a range of works including automated tracks, winches, grid work, structural engineering, new and/or refurbishment of stage floors, masking flats, soft goods and cyclorama’s. Even if you only need advice, we are happy to discuss your requirements and provide professional recommendations.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES In addition to offering assistance in set design, builds, and maintenance, we also have a number of other opportunities available for staff and students. We're not just here to build, but to support and promote the future of performing arts and theatrical construction in South Australia. SCHOOL TOURS ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE We can arrange visits for you and your students to tour the workshop and see sets being built. We offer the chance to go behind the scenes of the biggest theatre construction workshop in SA with contacts across Australia and the globe. EDUCATORS’ PROFESSIONAL LEARNING Our Educators’ Professional Learning event is a 3- hour session, including a workshop tour, Q&A panel, and networking opportunities. Involvement in these events can be counted toward required professional learning hours.
