2021 Season Outlook June 25, 2021 The days of the 2021 season are approaching fast and we can say with certainty, we have never been more ready to welcome guests to the mystical shores of Haida Gwaii. A beautiful June evening at Langara Island, captured recently by our Clubhouse team members.
Like all of us at The Club, guests have been expressing their undeniable excitement to return to this magical place. Our commitment to the health and safety of everyone remains our top priority this season and we invite you to read more about our COVID Safety Plan here. For our American guests, The Canada/US border remains closed until July 21st. We must begin the season without our southern friends, however we feel there is reason to be optimistic the border will re-open this summer. The Canadian government is facing immense pressure and we believe it will be hard for them to keep the border closed if we are in a manageable state with low case counts and infection rates. We expect some indication if the border will be extended from July 21st to August 21st in the next two weeks. At The Clubhouse, staff are swinging into action preparing for an unforgettable season under the leadership of Jordan Knight. He, along with his management team have been hard at work getting The Clubhouse ready for the first guests’ arrival. Jordan enters his second year as Clubhouse General Manager and will be a familiar face to many who have fished at The Outpost before. He has spent the past 10 years working in nearly every role at The Outpost – from executive chef to guide – eventually landing the lodge manager position which he held for 5 seasons. We’re certain guests will enjoy Jordan’s wealth of hospitality and experience this summer and we can’t wait for you to become acquainted. Jordan Knight enters his second season as The Clubhouse manager. He and his team are looking forward to welcoming guests back this summer. Down around the corner, The Outpost team is putting the finishing touches on the lodge and looking forward to welcoming their first guests to the rugged shores of Port Louis. We are excited to announce that Shawn Crawford is stepping into his first year as General Manager of The Outpost. Shawn is well known at The Clubhouse as one of our most requested guides for the past 15 years, where he has helped deliver the first-class service WCFC is known for. As a past executive chef at one of British Columbia’s premier golf destinations, Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club, Shawn’s experience in the service industry has spanned over three decades. He brings a unique blend of hospitality and fishing knowledge to his new role and guests will be in great hands this season.
We are excited to introduce Shawn Crawford as The Outpost’s new general manager this season. In culinary news, The Clubhouse is pleased to welcome Executive Chef, David Leeder. David’s three Michelin-star experience defines him as a chef with one of the highest levels of training and experience in The Club’s history. His approach will focus on the small details that he believes will add to creating the best moments and memories for our guests. We’re pleased to welcome Executive Chef, David Leeder to lead the culinary program at The Clubhouse. “We want to deliver something special that they aren’t expecting. It might be rustic Italian one night, focused on hand-crafted pastas or more refined another night with a beautifully roasted duck that has been raised in the Fraser Valley, BC. We have a lot of diversity on our team with experience from some of the best restaurants in the world. I think that experience will translate to our guests on all fronts.” Read more about Chef David here. Chef David’s team will also be on hand for the 15th anniversary of the David Hawksworth & Friends Culinary Adventure this July. Joining Chef Hawksworth, guests have another star-studded lineup to look forward to including Adam Pegg (La Quercia), Dino Renaerts (Bon Vivant Catering), and Sylvain Assie (Hawksworth
Restaurant). Chef David Hawksworth will be joined by three guest chefs for a sold out 15th annual David Hawksworth & Friends Culinary Adventure on July 11-15th. On the fishing front, early reports from our guides show that the fish have arrived on schedule. Mike “Screamer” Tonnesen reports on the lodge coming to life, quality fishing in the mid-twenties and our first tyee of the season. You can read his full report here. Clubhouse team member Kim and guide Paul enjoying the June fishery. Guests can expect whale sightings all season long! Over the past few years, we have been making improvements to the back deck at The Clubhouse. Our goal has been to enhance the experience by creating a space where guests can spend more time outdoors by the fire and taking in the stunning views of Parry Pass. This offseason, our team has further brought our vision to life by installing a brand-new glass roof over the firepit and seating areas. Below are a few photos of our plans in action. We can’t wait for guests to experience our revamped space.
