WE’RE HERE, TOGETHER Dear family, We’re here. Together. Finally. There are no words to describe what we’ve all been through over the past few years. Seeing your faces, hearing your voices, reveling in your smiles – these are the moments I’ve been dreaming about since early 2020 when we began our long period of isolation. We’ve done what we had to do to face challenges associated with Covid-19 and we’re still fighting the same fights to protect and expand our rights at seemingly every level of government. Despite the hardships, we’re here. We’ve lost many beloved members of our community since we last gathered for Pride, but our community remains intact and our message remains the same: We’re here, together. Cultivating a community organization that reflects the community itself has always been an intentional goal; we are who we serve. I feel this fully as I continue marveling at The LGBT Community Center’s team of dedicated staff, volunteers, community partners, and board members. Together, we have proven ourselves and boldly demonstrate our capability to rise in the face of unimaginable challenges. Together, we faced those challenges on how to care for Center guests, LGBTQ community members, and each other with grace and success. We also gained a newfound understanding of our role in the community, beginning with building collaborative supports and partnerships across the LGBTQ+ serving organiza- tions and groups because together we rise not only to benefit the Center, but in coalition with other organizations who have dedicated themselves to establish- ing a safer, accepting, and just environment. In 2022, I am proud to celebrate ten years of leadership at the Center with clarity of focus in service of our mission to “enrich the lives of LGBTQ+ people through support, advocacy, education, and celebration.” When I began with the Center in 2012, it was brimming with excitement about the opportunity to rise to street level. Visibility means a great deal to our community whose struggles and obstacles are often erased and disregarded. This new wave of visibility allows us to continue our commitment to serve the community. After almost a decade of learning and growing through humility and well-earned successes, we expanded on the goal by establishing our Center as an anchor organization in our neighborhood. This Pride, I’ll be reflecting on where we’ve been and where we’re headed. I’m focusing on my joy, my anger, and my deep appreciation for each and every one of you. As you enjoy the day, I invite you to do the same. Sincerely yours, Phyllis Seven Harris LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland executive director PRIDE IN THE CLE 2022 5

PRIDE IN THE CLE 2022 Dear friends, There were times when I wasn’t sure this day would come. When we left Public Square after such a perfect day in 2019, we were full of ideas and energy for the biggest Pride in the CLE ever in 2020. We had our new venue picked out, we were in talks with amazing musicians and entertainers, and we had some other great surprises in store. Unfortunately, our plans changed when Covid-19 took over our lives. My team at The Fairmount Group, the team at the LGBT Center, and our Pride in the CLE Steering Committee talked about our Pride in the CLE community every single day. We worried about our small business vendors and individual artisans that might not survive periods of lockdown. We worried about entertainers and performers who missed opportunities to earn an income when bars and concert venues were closed. We worried endlessly about the folks who come to Pride to enjoy a sense of community and find safety. Those worries turned into conversa- tions about how to reach folks we care about, which have led to some important changes in this year’s event. We’ve always considered inclusion to be one of our priorities at Pride in the CLE, but this year we’ve done even more to help a wider audience participate in and enjoy our event. From the layout to the flow the event, we’ve considered the needs of differently abled community members at every point. This year, we’re proud to offer a sensory-limited space inside the Hilton that will be hosted in partnership with Spectrum Saturdays, a community group for people on the autism spectrum with LGBTQ identities. This space will be temperature- controlled, quiet, and relaxing and it is open to anyone who needs a place to decompress and recharge. This is just one example of the many new things you’ll see as you browse around this year. Around the festival, you’ll find more than 140 community groups, and we encourage you to take some time to browse, shop and learn about our amazing partner organizations. Get your face painted, buy a Pride in the CLE t-shirt, and snap a selfie with one of our gorgeous drag queens (don’t forget to tip them!). Enjoy some beer or wine while you catch a band or two on the main stage, then make your way over to Mall B to shoot some hoops, join a kickball tournament, and connect with some healthcare providers at the MetroHealth Pride Network Wellness Village before you head out to the after party. We are honored to present this year’s Pride in the CLE.
