Santa Fe 2020 Registration is OPEN! Register today! Fellow 77s, do you need a break from writing the Great American Ted Talk, streaming the first 5 seasons of Schitt$ Creek, hunting Yetis in the wild or applying for Medicare? Then it’s time to focus on some big fun! DAR7MOU7H’s 65th Birthday Bash is just 5 months away in Santa Fe New Mexico Thursday August 27 through Sunday August 30. Our party committee, headed by Chairs Amy Cholnoky and Ted Lapres, moneyman Chuck Dana, Social Chair Leslie Bradford and local intel special agent Don Wiviott have devised a festive and fun weekend aiming to delight and amaze us all. Amy notes “After more than a year of planning and several recon missions to Santa Fe we have crafted a action-packed schedule guaranteed to appeal to all 77s, from Artists to Actives to food/drink Aficionados.” Ted, who is lucky enough to call SF his second home, outlines the plan: “For Wednesday early birds we’ll host a Tailgate at Santa Fe Opera ($$ denotes extra expense not included in Registration Fee) before attending an open-air performance of M. Butterfly. Thursday August 27 will include self-directed/organized “Fun in the Sun” activities like golf, hiking, mountain biking and walking tours ($$). Lodging options ($$) include the historically beautiful La Fonda on the Plaza, our BDay HQ and home to our Thursday eve welcome reception.” “On Friday we’ve organized an outing to Bandelier National Park https://www.nps.gove/band/index.com, home of the ancestral dwelling caves of the Ancient Pueblo people, petroglyphs and beautiful hiking, followed by a return trip through Los Alamos for lunch ($$). Other options on a first come basis include a trip to Georgia O’Keeffe’s home in Abiquiu and a visit to historic Ghost Ranch (also offered on Saturday morning), a visit to the totally unique interactive experience of Meow Wolf https://www.meowwolf.com (all $$). Our evening activity will include a stroll down Santa Fe’s Canyon Road, home to dozens of galleries, and concluding with Cocktails and Hors d’Ouevres at the renowned Nedra Matteuci Gallery https://www.nedramatteuci.com” “Saturday invites us to explore Santa Fe, including the Farmers Market, walking tours, museum visits and much more and on a first come basis, a second excursion to the Georgia O’Keeffe home in Abiquiu. We conclude our festive weekend with a cocktail reception and sit-down Gala 65th BDay dinner at the Museum of Folk Art on Museum Hill, overlooking scenic Santa Fe.” The Registration fee ($275/person until May 31, $325/person thereafter) covers the Thursday reception (Drinks and apps you can make a meal of), Friday evening Gallery Cocktails and Hors d’Ouevres, Saturday evening Gala BDay Dinner and Hospitality Suite refreshments each night for after-hours socializing. 1977 and the Dartmouth College Fund from the desks of Head Agents John Ogden and Betsy Fauver Stueber Home with The Armadillo Our Correspondent to the North Pete Volanakis, takes a break from outdoor play and convenes with Boom Boom We are so proud of the Class for making a strong showing in the D250 Chal- lenge last Fall. We honored the College’s milestone and put ourselves in great Lodge buddies to Welcome Home the Friendliest People, shape for another strong year of supporting the financial aid needs of today’s with or without the Prettiest Women you’ve ever seen... Dartmouth students. Thank you to all who have made their gifts this year! or not. I thought I’d pass along a few pics from the Lodge’s (that’s the famed Theta We still have work to do and are conducting another push to help us reach Delta Chi to us mere mortals) celebration of its 150 years at Dartmouth over the our class goals! The 77th Day Challenge hopes to raise 77 gifts from 77 in the 10/25 weekend in Hanover. There were over 350 attendees, including TDX 77’s: first 77 days of the year. This year, the 77th Day is St. Pat’s, so we’ll be having Steve Cordy, Wes Chapman, Kevin Case, Rory Laughna, Orville Lunking, Tom fun and celebrating with lots of (Dartmouth) green! Supporting the DCF is Barnico, Kevin Young, Don Thomas, Gary Rogers, Pete Volanakis and Joe Gleason incredibly meaningful to the College and to our Class. If we can impart one (pictured at bottom left to right). request on each of you – please don’t wait until June to make your gift!!! Be Like Floppy Man - Give early, Give often!! Events included presentation of a commemorative bowl and Governor Sununuu’s proclamation to Phil Hanlon (below right); recognition of the anniversary at the rainy Friday night game versus Columbia, recognition of all the TDX football players who were on Ivy Championship teams, an afternoon performance of Lodge favorite Jerry Jeff Walker (honorary 77 TDX pictured above right) and his band on BHCF field behind the house, a lunch Class Progress as of 2/18: gathering on the rugby field during the usual Dartmouth blowout of an opponent, a celebration gala at the Hanover Inn where all ball and banquet rooms were needed to accommodate the crowd, and various informal gatherings at the Lodge. The Jerry Jeff concert was a real highlight. While his vocal skills reflected his 77 years, it didn’t matter as his band was outstanding and the Lodge boys knew all the lyrics anyway. It was basically a sing-along. To everyone’s everlasting surprise, there were neither inju- ries nor property damage during the weekend. President Hanlon noted that “it took 100 years for Dartmouth to recognize that it needed Theta Delta Chi”. He also remarked on the many positive contributions of current brothers to the campus environment and philanthropy. Thanks much Pete! While it took us way less than 150 years to realise Meet Maizey we too need the Boom Boom Lodge we are nevertheless insanely jealous at how well you distinguished dudes have aged...and n.b., Mr. Case, nary Maizey is the Stueber Family’s trusty sidekick. a hockey player in sight! Cheers to you all! More photos on overleaf.... Fun Fact About Maizey No alum who supports the Dartmouth College Fund has ever been bitten by Maizey. We don’t mean to imply anything nefarious, but with a statistic this compelling, can you really risk NOT giving? While Larry and Betsy (Rob- erts) Gile (at right) were vacationing in Madrid this past fall, they bumped into Profes- sor Marysa Navarro. Although Betsy had not taken a course with Navarro, they immediately connected over Dartmouth and enjoyed a lovely conversation. Betsy learned that Professor Navarro is in the process of writing her biography. From the Vanguard of the PGA Tour, class Marketeer/Golfaholic but not Anony- mous Bill Replogle reports: “In a recent heated Dartmouth/Stanford alumni golf match, super looper Hugh Frater (below) aced the 13th hole at Copperhead, a 165- Debbie Lissner sent photos from a weekend in Newport and Providence. yard par 3 over water. We try to rendezvous every year or so, and it never stops being so much fun!” Jim Guth and John Murrow (below) joined a small Dartmouth Alumni Travel group in September to enjoy the “Imperial Splendors of Russia”, visiting Moscow and St. Petersburg. “After meeting with Putin to confirm his plans for the 2020 US election, we were amazed at how efficiently Moscow operates. No trash and no gum on the sidewalks ANYWHERE! A very prosperous and beautiful city, with little police presence. It may have been Boom Boom Lodge 77 Bros a delusion, but we felt safe and welcomed. Also in the group were Noreen and Joe Faulkner and Laurie and George Vieth78. #CollusionConfusionProfusion continue to party on during the TDX gala 150th celebration above, right and below. Liz Kadin caught up with Mike Zischke (below) at his law office in San Francisco, and he reports: “ I am still actively practicing law in SF, a lot of interesting cases involving the California Environmental Quality Act and claims about climate change. I moved to Senior Partner status recently, which means I can work a little less and travel a little more. Over the past few years, Nadin and I have had great trips to Scotland, New Zealand, and Ireland. Our Ireland trip included a fabulous visit with our younger daughter at the Ballymaloe Cookery School in Cork. Both daughters are grown and live in SF. In my spare time, I spend a lot to time stage managing musical productions for a private club.” P.S. Liz mentioned that Michael, who would not want to boast about himself, was named “Lawyer of the year 2020” by U.S. News and World report for his specialty, land use and zoning law litigation. Well done, Mike!! Defying his mother’s sage advice, Pete Volanakis (left) ventured indoors to Thomp- son Arena for a playdate with friends: “Mike Choukas, Ro Griggs and Vinnie Pelligrini; all 77s who are semi-retired and live in Hanover. Vinnie and wife Nancy Bird Pelligrini moved directly next door to me last Fall. We all attend hockey games from time to time. The pic was at the Dartmouth - St Lawrence game which we won 3-1.” Woot woot!
