The Pastor’s Corner Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Staying informed: I send a weekly email about upcoming events and parish news to parishioners who have acquired Flocknote. Flocknote is such an easy way to stay connected with our parish family. If you have not yet acquired Flocknote, consider obtaining it so that you’re aware of parish news and upcoming events. It’s quite easy to sign up for Flocknote – simply go to stpacc.org/flocknote. Promoting Vocations: Last weekend we recognized not only Mother’s Day but the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Praying for vocations is even more urgent today as we will not be ordaining any men to the Holy Priesthood this year for our Diocese. Vocations to the priesthood and religious life begin in the home. I encourage all families to regularly pray together, talk about faith, and encourage your children to be open to God's call in their life. The rosary is a great family prayer. Of course, attending Sunday Mass as a family is the foundation. There are many resources available for those who may be considering a vocation in the Church including the Diocese of Columbus vocations page: www.vocationscolumbus.org/. Additionally, the Quo Vadis Vocation Discernment Camp is a led by priests and seminarians of the Diocese of Columbus and is supported by the diocesan Office of Vocations. The camp will be held July 24-27 at The Pontifical College Josephinum (located at 7625 North High Street in Columbus) and is intended for young men entering Grades 9-12 . For additional information, please refer to www.vocationscolumbus.org/quovadis or contact Sam Severance at columbusquovadis@gmail.com. Bishop’s Annual Appeal: Earlier this month we began the 2022 Bishop’s Annual Appeal (BAA). The Appeal furthers the mission of our diocese and supports our vision for evangelization. Funds received via the BAA will afford the diocese to support the formation of priests and deacons for the future of our Church, comfort the sick in hospital through trained chaplains, prepare couples for the vocation of marriage and family life, provide tuition assistance to families seeking Catholic education, and so much more! Thank you to the very many who have already given to the BAA or turned in a pledge card. Extra pledge envelopes can be found in the pews and once completed can be placed in the offertory bowls. To make an online gift, go to columbuscatholicgiving.org/ways-to-give or give via the indicated link on our parish’s WeShare account at stpacc.org/donate. No amount of giving is too small. Thank you for your prayerful consideration to the BAA. Our Sunday Offertory: Thank you most sincerely to those who regularly give to our parish. Your contributions allow us to continue our mission. Many have found that WeShare Online is a most convenient and secure platform. Text stpaulohio to 800-950-9952 or give online at stpacc.org/donate. For those who prefer to use their offertory envelopes and may be unable to attend Mass, donations can be mailed to St. Paul Church, 313 N. State Street, Westerville, Ohio 43082. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Wilson The Fifth Sunday of Easter · May 15, 2022 3 View this bulletin online at www.DiscoverMass.com

The Holy Family Soup Kitchen and St. James the Less Food Pantry are in need of many items. The homeless served at Holy Family are in need of “flip top” cans of fruit and vegetables, small toiletry items, and individual fruit cups. Also, if you wish to donate regular size bags of pretzels, cookies and oyster crackers, volunteers will divide them into snack size bags. Those served at St. James can always use soups, vegetables, and cereal. Thank you in advance for your donations. Check the SVDP Thrift Store website at svdpcolumbus.org for a list of items to donate. Members of our parish SVDP conference will be on hand to help you unload your cars and put your donations into the trailer. If you have large items to contact, please provide your name, phone number and address during the donation weekend at the trailer, and a member of the Thrift Store staff will call and schedule a time to pick-up the items. Connecting the Word of God to Our Lives Adapted from Faith Sharing for Small Church Communities; (ed. Rev. Art Baranowski) Reflecting on Today’s Gospel The Fifth Sunday of Easter, May 15 (Cycle C) First Reading: Acts 14:21-27 Second Reading: Revelation 21:1-5a Gospel: John 13:31-33a, 34-35 John's Gospel does not present a sentimental view of love. This is a type of love that is shown in service and sacrifice. It is difficult to choose to love when faced with hatred and anger. Jesus tells the disciples that all will know that they are his disciples because of the love they show for one another. This description of the early Christian community will be repeated in the Acts of the Apostles: “See how they love one another.” Christian love is the hallmark of Christianity. We see it lived in the witness of the martyrs. We see it in the example of the lives of the saints. We see it in the holy women and men who live and love daily, making small and large sacrifices for others. Jesus didn't just tell us to love one another. He showed us how to love one another. In what ways do you show love to others? What might you do differently this week to share God’s love? Preparing for Next Sunday The Sixth Sunday of Easter, May 22 (Cycle C) First Reading: Acts 15:1-2, 22-29 Second Reading: Revelation 21:10-14, 22-23 Gospel: John 14:23-29 Both the reading from Acts and the Gospel tell us that Luke was interested in showing the abiding presence of the Lord with the early Christian community. Both groups involved in the dispute in Acts trusted that the Holy Spirit would guide them to the right decision. In the Gospel Jesus includes a promise and a challenge in his farewell. He promises to “make his dwelling place” with them always. The condition for him to be present with all his heart, however, is that they continue to love him and to take his message seriously. Jesus says the message is not just his but also that of the Father. He is the messenger of the Father. He promises to send the Spirit who will stand at their side and teach them all things. Speak of a time when you trusted and experienced true peace. Where do you need peace right now? 14 Inspired by Saint Paul ~ Centered on Christ ~ Called to Holiness View this bulletin online at www.DiscoverMass.com
