The Pastor’s Corner Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, He is Risen! Staying informed: I send a weekly email about upcoming events and parish news to parishioners who have acquired Flocknote. Flocknote is such an easy way to stay connected with our parish family. If you do not have Flocknote, consider obtaining it so that you’re aware of parish news and events. It’s easy to sign up for Flocknote – simply go to stpacc.org/flocknote. Bishop’s Annual Appeal: Last weekend was the start of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. The Appeal makes possible many of the important works of the Diocese of Columbus, including contributing to the education of our future priests and deacons, and supporting the education of our young people in their faith. You should have received a letter from me outlining the needs of this year's Appeal and inviting you to make a pledge. Extra pledge envelopes have been placed in the pews for your convenience. Our parish goal this year is $379,604. We will receive every dollar raised over our goal to address our own needs. Gifts can be made online at stpacc.org/donate. Please pray for the success of the Appeal and remember that no amount of giving is too small. Thank you! Installation of Bishop-elect Fernandes: Bishop-elect Earl Fernandes will be ordained a Bishop and installed as the Bishop of Columbus on Tuesday, May 31 here at St. Paul the Apostle Parish. We are truly honored and humbled to host this important event in the life of the Diocese of Columbus. We will be hosting many Bishops and Priests from around the country as well as the Priests, Deacons, Religious, and the Lay Faithful of the Diocese. Tickets are limited to two per parish. Thankfully the event will be livestreamed, including on EWTN. In order to prepare and accommodate the event, we will not have any public events in the parish after the 8:30 AM Mass on Monday, May 30 (no 8:30 AM or 6:15 PM Mass on May 31) nor will there be school on Tuesday, May 31. Please join me in praying for Bishop-elect Fernandes and for the success of this important event here at St. Paul. Congratulations to Parishioner Mr. John Erwin: At the Good Shepherd Dinner last week hosted by the Pontifical College Josephinum, parishioner John Erwin received the Josephinum's Pope Leo XIII Award for his support of priestly vocations as seminary Treasurer and Vice President of Administration of the Josephinum. In addition, a surprise announcement by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Papal Nuncio to the United States of America, named him as a Knight of The Pontifical Equestrian Order of Saint Gregory the Great. The honor is bestowed upon Catholic individuals in recognition of their personal service to the Holy See and to the Catholic Church. We are blessed by Mr. Erwin's example of faith in action both through his dedicated service to the Pontifical College Josephinum and through his active involvement in the life of our parish! Pray for Those Recently Confirmed: Last weekend more than 150 of our youth were confirmed. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ. This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. Please pray that our young people continue to strong grow spiritually and become true disciples of Christ. Our Sunday Offertory: Thank you most sincerely to those who regularly give to our parish. Your contributions allow us to continue our mission. Many have found that WeShare Online is a most convenient and secure platform. Text stpaulohio to 800-950-9952 or give online at stpacc.org/donate. For those who prefer to use their offertory envelopes and may be unable to attend Mass, donations can be mailed to St. Paul Church, 313 N. State Street, Westerville, Ohio 43082. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Wilson The Fourth Sunday of Easter · May 8, 2022 3 View this bulletin online at www.DiscoverMass.com

St. Vincent de Paul News and Upcoming Events Our parish’s St. Vincent de Paul’s monthly food pantry collection will be held next weekend, May 14 and 15. The Holy Family Soup Kitchen and St. James the Less Food Pantry are in need of many items. The homeless served at Holy Family are in need of “flip top” cans of fruit and vegetables, small toiletry items, and individual fruit cups. Also, if you wish to donate regular size bags of pretzels, cookies and oyster crackers, volunteers will divide them into snack size bags. Those served at St. James can always use soups, vegetables, and cereal. Thank you in advance for your donations. And please note that the following weekend, May 21-May 22, our SVDP Conference will have a SVDP Thrift Store trailer in our church parking lot from 2:00 until 6:30 PM on Saturday, and from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Sunday. Our SVDP volunteers will be accepting donations of gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, toys, all household items, appliances, dishware, glassware, and home decor. We will be unable to accept bed frames, used mattresses, and TVs that cannot be mounted on the wall. If you have large furniture or appliances that need to be picked up at your home, please provide your name and phone number to one of our volunteers that weekend and someone from the SVDP Thrift Store will contact you. If you have any questions, please call parishioner and SVDP Chairperson, Jane Nieman, at 614-794-9605. Thank you for supporting the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Please bring your family and plan to join us in the Klinger Center for coffee, donuts, and other treats on Sunday, May 22 following the 8:00, 10:00 AM and noon Masses. Dear St. Paul Families: I would like to express my gratitude to the administration, parents, and staff for their support, but especially my Spanish Club students for the efforts to make the Cultural Exchange with the youth from Christ the King parish such a successful one! Recently thirteen students in St. Paul School’s Spanish Club joined the Chiquitin Misonero Concert. Our youth were able to sponsor some of the activities by providing snacks, drinks, goody bags, and prizes for the games by using the money that they collected at the Christmas Bazaar. Our students were quite engaged in dancing and participating in Father Schalk’s presentation. He even taught them four words in sign language to communicate with Jesus. Later in the day, our youth they led the games for the children. Everyone had a lot of fun! Thank you very much to our St. Paul families who encouraged our youth to attend this activity. Special GRACIAS to the students for coming to share a few hours with the Hispanic youth, too! I am very sure that everyone involved had a good time! Connecting the Word of God to Our Lives Adapted from Faith Sharing for Small Church Communities; (ed. Rev. Art Baranowski) Reflecting on Today’s Gospel... The Fourth Sunday of Easter, May 8 (Cycle C) First Reading: Acts 13:14, 43-52 Second Reading: Revelation 7:9, 14-17 Gospel: John 10:27-30 The words Jesus speaks in this reading were directed to the Jewish leaders who were hoping he would call himself the Messiah. Instead, Jesus refers to himself as "the Good Shepherd." He describes the secure and lasting relationship he has with his sheep, those who truly hear him and believe. Just as no one can separate Jesus and his Father, no one can take Jesus' disciples away from him. What does it mean to you that Jesus is the Good Shepherd? What will you do this week to show that you have truly heard the Good Shepherd's voice? Preparing for Next Sunday... The Fifth Sunday of Easter, May 15 First Reading: Acts 14:21-27 Second Reading: Revelation 21:1-5a Gospel: John 13:31-35 There are many examples in the Bible of farewell speeches. They always include leaving a special gift. Jesus addresses his disciples as “my children,” like a father would do so on his deathbed. Jesus’ gift is the commandment to “love one another.” This is the key to eternal happiness. What we believe and certainly how we behave and worship must be motivated by this command to “love one another” as he loves us. What qualities do you believe are the most important qualities for Jesus' disciples? How do you love someone who you find is rather difficult to love? 14 Inspired by Saint Paul ~ Centered on Christ ~ Called to Holiness View this bulletin online at www.DiscoverMass.com
