PRAYERS
Prayer of the Faithful

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and pray for the needs of all.
For the whole Church, raised with Christ Jesus our Lord, as we seek what is above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father, let us pray to the Lord.
For the people of every nation of the world, may they know the right hand of the Lord that
has struck with power, and be freed from malice, wickedness, and oppression, let us pray to the Lord.
For all those afflicted by illness or pain or distress; may they know the healing power of the risen Lord
in their lives, let us pray to the Lord.
For all the newly baptized throughout the world, and especially those here in our own community; may
they walk always with Christ in newness of life, let us pray to the
Lord.
For all of our worshiping community today as we share in the mis-
sion first given to the apostles to testify to the Good News of our
risen Lord, let us pray to the Lord.
For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from COVID-19, and
for all who have died, let us pray to the Lord.
For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all
our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.
Almighty God,
we rejoice in the great work you have accomplished
through your Son Jesus Christ.
Fill us with zeal to proclaim this good news
and graciously hear all these our prayers
through the same Christ our risen Lord.

REJOICE AND BE GLAD
During the first three or four centuries of Christiani-
ty, if you asked a Christian to name the feast days
of the church, your answer would have been a puz-
zled stare, for there was only one feast: the Resur-
rection of the Lord. Every Sunday was a feast cele-
brating the one great feast. Even though our calen-
dar now has many beautiful and holy feasts, we
must continually be called back to the fact that all
these other feasts exist because of the feast of
Christ’s passover from death to life. The psalm to-
day proclaims this message well: ―This is the day.‖
It is not one of many days, but it is the day of all
days, the one that gives all the others their origin,
purpose, meaning, and destiny. Listen carefully to
Peter’s speech in Acts with its recollection of the
Passion, to the words of the apostle Paul, and to
the account of Mary Magdalene, John, and Peter
finding the empty tomb, and you will hear the many
wonderful works that God has done for us through
Christ. Rejoice and be glad!

Easter Sunday
Alleluia! Christ is risen! Imagine the flood of emotions that Mary of Magdala must have experienced on that first Easter
morning. Grieving and yet determined to visit the place where Jesus’ body had been laid, Mary would have been stunned
to find the tomb empty. Imagine Simon Peter and the other disciple who, upon hearing Mary’s announcement, ran to see
for themselves. On Easter, we hear the story of Jesus’ resurrection as though for the first time, through the account of
Mary’s discovery and the testimony of Peter who powerfully shared Christ’s Paschal Mystery. We, too, have come to
believe through their faithful witness. We are called to seek what is above, turn away from sin, and live as people who
are forever transformed by the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection.
STEP OUT IN FAITH
Mary ran to tell Simon Peter and the other disciple that the tomb was empty. No doubt confused and concerned, Peter
and the other disciple set aside whatever fear might have occurred to them and ran to see the tomb for themselves. We
do not always understand God’s ways. We too are confused at times; our lives are marked by moments of uncertainty,
and at times we are afraid. We can learn from Mary, Simon Peter, and the other disciple and step out in faith, trusting
that we will find the Lord in the midst of the circumstances of our lives. When life gets complicated, as it often does, the
best thing to do is step out, perhaps even run to the Lord!
BEAR WITNESS
We may not have opportunities to address crowds of people and share the gospel with them. Still, we are called to bear
witness to our faith in the ways that we are able, in word and in deed. We cannot share what we have not fully embraced
ourselves, however. The Easter season is the perfect time to reflect on Christ’s Paschal Mystery, the unfathomable love
of Jesus who shows and shares God’s love perfectly. Our Lord gave his life so that we might have life, and have it to the
full. Christ’s victory over sin and death is our victory, our promise of eternal life with God in the fullness of time. See in
Christ’s life, passion, death, and resurrection the sign of God’s mercy. Let this Easter day be a moment in which you
allow yourself to be touched by Christ’s incredible, undying love. Then, renewed in faith, look for ways to bear witness
to the mercy, forgiveness, compassion, and love of the Lord with others.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Domingo de Pascua
MOVERNOS POR LA FE
María corrió a decirle a Simón Pedro y al otro discípulo que el sepulcro estaba vacío. Sin duda confundidos y
preocupados, Pedro y el otro discípulo dejaron a un lado cualquier miedo que pudieron haber sentido y corrieron a ver el
sepulcro por ellos mismos. No siempre entendemos los caminos de Dios. Nosotros también algunas veces estamos con-
fundidos, nuestras vidas están marcadas por momentos de duda, y a veces tenemos miedo. Podemos aprender de María,
Simón Pedro y el otro discípulo y movernos por la fe, confiando que encontraremos al Señor en medio de las circunstan-
cias de nuestras vidas. Cuando la vida se complica, como sucede a menudo, lo mejor que puede hacerse es movernos,
¡quizá incluso correr hacía el Señor!
DAR TESTIMONIO
Puede que no tengamos la oportunidad de dirigirnos a las multitudes y compartir el Evangelio con ellos. Aún así,
estamos llamados a dar testimonio de nuestra fe de la manera que podamos, de palabra y con hechos. Sin embargo, no
podemos compartir lo que no tenemos. El tiempo de Pascua es el tiempo perfecto para reflexionar en el misterio pascual
de Cristo, el amor inconmensurable que Jesús nos muestra y el amor de Dios que comparte. Nuestro Señor dio su vida
para que pudiéramos tener vida y una vida en abundancia. La victoria de Cristo sobre el pecado y la muerte es nuestra
victoria, nuestra promesa de vida eterna con Dios en la plenitud de los tiempos. Ve en la vida, pasión, muerte y resurrec-
ción el signo de la misericordia de Dios. Permite que este día de Pascua sea un momento en el cual permitas ser tocado
por el amor increíble y eterno de Cristo. Luego, renovados en la fe, busca maneras de dar testimonio a los demás de la

PHÚC ÂM: Ga 20, 1-9— "Người phải sống lại từ cõi chết".
Tin Mừng Chúa Giêsu Kitô theo Thánh Gioan.
Ngày đầu tuần, Maria Mađalêna đi ra mồ từ sáng sớm khi trời còn tối và bà thấy tảng đá đã
được lăn ra khỏi mồ, bà liền chạy về tìm Simon-Phêrô và người môn đệ kia được Chúa
Giêsu yêu mến, bà nói với các ông rằng: "Người ta đã lấy xác Thầy khỏi mồ, và chúng tôi
không biết người ta đã để Thầy ở đâu". Phêrô và môn đệ kia ra đi đến mồ. Cả hai cùng
chạy, nhưng môn đệ kia chạy nhanh hơn Phêrô, và đến mồ trước. Ông cúi mình xuống thấy
những khăn liệm để đó, nhưng ông không vào trong. Vậy Simon-Phêrô theo sau cũng tới
nơi, ông vào trong mồ và thấy những dây băng nhỏ để đó, và khăn liệm che đầu Người
trước đây, khăn này không để lẫn với dây băng, nhưng cuộn lại để riêng một chỗ. Bấy giờ
môn đệ kia mới vào, dù ông đã tới mồ trước. Ông thấy và ông tin, vì chưng các ông còn chưa hiểu rằng, theo Kinh
Thánh, thì Người phải sống lại từ cõi chết. Đó là lời Chúa.

04 Tháng Tư— Ðánh Nhau Bằng Gậy Gộc
Họa sĩ Goya, người Tây Ban Nha vào đầu thế kỉ 19, đã để lại một loạt những bức tranh mô tả thân phận con
người thật ý nghĩa. Một trong họa phẩm mà ông đã thực hiện trong thời nội chiến của người Tây Ban Nha vào
cuối thế kỷ 18 mang tựa đề: "Ðánh nhau bằng gậy gộc".
Trong bức tranh, Goya vẽ hai người nông dân xô xát nhau. Mỗi người cầm trong tay một chiếc dùi cui sần
sùi. Một người đang giơ chiếc dùi cui để bảo vệ mặt mình. Nền trời không để lộ một nét nổi bật nào. Người ta
không đoán được trời sắp giông bão hay sắp sáng rỡ.
Thoạt nhìn qua cũng nghĩ đây chỉ là một bức tranh tầm thường như những bức tranh khác. Thế nhưng có
một chi tiết nói lên tất cả ý nghĩa của bức tranh: đó là hai người nông dân đang hầm hầm sát khí để loại trừ
nhau này lại mắc cạn trong cồn cát. Từng cơn gió thổi, cát bụi đang kéo tới phủ lấp hai người đến quá đầu gối.
Goya muốn cho chúng ta thấy rằng cả hai người nông dân này sắp chết. Họ sẽ không chết vì những cú dùi
cui giáng trên nhau cho bằng chính cát bụi đang từ từ chôn vùi họ.Thế nhưng thay vì giúp nhau để ra khỏi cái
chết, họ lại cư xử chẳng khác nào thú dữ: họ cắn xé nhau. Họa phẩm "Ðánh nhau bằng gậy gộc" trên đây của
danh họa Goya nói lên phần nào tình cảnh mà nhân loại chúng ta đang trải qua.Thay vì giúp nhau để ra khỏi
không biết bao nhiêu tai họa, con người lại giành giật chém giết lẫn nhau.
Bức tranh ấy có lẽ không chỉ diễn ra ở quy mô thế giới, một nơi nào đó ngoài cuộc sống của chúng ta, mà
không chừng đang diễn ra hằng ngày trong các mối tương quan của chúng ta với những người xung quanh.
Cơn cám dỗ muốn thanh toán và loại trừ người khác có lẽ vẫn còn đang gặm nhấm tâm hồn chúng ta.
Bức tranh của họa sĩ Goya cũng chính là bức tranh của thân phận con người chúng ta. Ngay chính trong cơn
quẫn bách và đe dọa tứ phía, thay vì liên đới để bảo vệ nhau, người ta vẫn có thể đâm chém lẫn nhau.
Một nhạc sĩ nào đó đã có lý để tra vấn chúng ta: giết người đi thì ta ở với ai? Một trong những phương thế
tốt đẹp nhất để tiêu diệt một kẻ thù chính là biến kẻ thù ấy trở thành một người bạn.
Chúa Giêsu đã để lại cho chúng ta khuôn vàng thước ngọc: nếu có ai vả má bên phải của ngươi, hãy chìa
luôn cả má còn lại... Trong những giờ phút cuối đời, khi đứng giữa những người đang đằng đằng sát khí muốn
hủy diệt mình, Chúa Giêsu đã xin Chúa Cha tha thứ cho họ. Trích sách Lẽ Sống
