PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer. O God of grace and glory, we remember before you today our sister Amy Denise, one of your saints. We thank you for giving her to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth. In your compassion, console all who mourn. Give us faith to see that death does not have the last word on our lives, so that we may live in confidence and hope until, by your call, we are gathered into the company of all your saints; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. =WORD= Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff— they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long. Page 3
READINGS First Reading The Suicide Prophet 1 Kings 19:3-5 Reader; Nancy Spears Then prophet Elijah was afraid; he got up and fled for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah; he left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a solitary broom tree. He asked that he might die: ‘It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my ancestors.’ Then he lay down under the broom tree and fell asleep. Second Reading The Unconditional Love of God excerpts from Romans 8 Reader: Dave Drake I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us. The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And the will of God is life and life abundant. Whether in life or in death God is always loving us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or death? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Gospel Nothing to Worry About John 14: 1-3 ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. HOMILY Rev. Liliana Stahlberg Page 4

POEM—When Tomorrow Starts Without Me By David M Romano Reader Amanda Blackmon When tomorrow starts without me, And I’m not here to see, If the sun should rise and find your eyes All filled with tears for me, I wish so much you wouldn’t cry The way you did today, While thinking of the many things We did not get to say. I know how much you love me, As much as I love you, And each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too; But when tomorrow starts without me, Please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name, And took me by the hand, And said my place was ready, In heaven far above, And that I'd have to leave behind All those I dearly love. But as I turned to walk away, A tear fell from my eye. For all my life, I'd always thought I didn't want to die. I had so much to live for, So much left yet to do, It seemed almost impossible That I was leaving you. I thought of all the yesterdays, The good ones and the bad, I thought of all the love we shared, And all the fun we had. Page 6
If I could relive yesterday, just even for a while, I'd say good-bye and kiss you and maybe see you smile. But then I fully realized, That this could never be, For emptiness and memories, Would take the place of me. And when I thought of worldly things, I might miss come tomorrow, I thought of you, and when I did, My heart was filled with sorrow. But when I walked through heaven’s gates, I felt so much at home. When God looked down and smiled at me, From his golden throne. He said, "This Is Eternity, and all I've promised you. Today your life on earth is past, but here, life starts anew. I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last, And since each day’s the same way, There's no longing for the past. You have been so faithful, so trusting and so true. Though there were times you did some things You knew you shouldn't do. But you have been forgiven, And now at last you're free. So won't you come and take my hand And share my life with me?" So when tomorrow starts without me, Don't think we’re far apart, For every time you think of me, I’m right here, in your heart. Page 7

THE LORD’S PRAYER Gathered into One by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. COMMENDATION The pastor and the family will come and form a circle in front of the altar. Let us commend Amy Denise, our blue bird of happiness, to God, our hope, our love, our savior. Let us keep a moment of silence. Into your hands, O God our creator, and Christ our Savior we commend our sister Amy Denise. May her body return to the dust of the earth from which you formed her. May her spirit soar where the eagles fly, and join again in Your Eternal Essence. May the saints who went before her welcome her into the new life You give to all the departed. May Christ, the true Shepherd, acknowledge her as one of his flock. And may Amy Denise see You God face to face and live in the eternal JOY of Your presence. Amen. BLESSING God the Father, + Christ the Son, and God the Holy Spirit bless you now and forever. Amen. Page 9
