Welcome to Rose of Sharon Academy CBC/8-4-4 & Cambridge Curriculum We are excited to be an integral part of your child’s foundational learning years. Inside this pack is all the information that you need to ensure that your child has a smooth transition into our school. We believe that communication between home and school is key to helping us get to know your child as quickly as possible. We operate on an “open door” policy, so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask anyone on our team. Our strength as a school lies in our ethos, which is based in our school mission: “to mold a generation of skilled responsible and dignified leaders who will be sought after for their competence.” We aim for all our learners to be model citizens when they leave the school, understanding their place in the wider community. We hope that your child has a wonderful time at our school and that we are able to provide you and your family with not only happy memories that will last forever, but also academic success for your child where they achieve their full potential in everything they do.
CBC CURRICULUM Pre-school We believe that education should start on the right footing and for us that means spaces that feel like home; nurturing, warm, safe and designed for fun. Our kindergarten welcomes children from the age of two to six years old. At RSA, we pride ourselves on being able to provide a seamless transition for your children by creating a happy, safe and inclusive environment where they develop at a relaxed pace and are encouraged to explore and experiment. The introduction of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) combines the use of structure and routine with opportunities for free choice and exploration. Our versatile approach to teaching incorporates contemporary methods by using play and technology. Whilst we recognize the importance of child-led activities, we acknowledge that children need a balance of structure and free choice to ensure that they experience all areas of learning, and in particular, those areas they find more challenging. Our highly capable team has a wide-ranging set of skills, which enables us to ensure that all of our children continue on to the next stage of their education with confidence and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. We also incorporate a wide range of extra curricular activities such as roller skating, swimming, music, among others, which are paramount for developing social, physical and interpersonal skills.
“We create spaces that feel like home; nurturing, warm, safe and designed for fun.” Dropping Off & Picking Up Your Child The school day begins at 8.00am but the children come in between 6.30am - 7.30am. - Morning Session: 8.00am - 10.00am - Break Time: 10.00am - 11.00am - Afternoon Session: 2.00pm - 3.00pm We use the second exit to pick up the children, to allow for smooth traffic flow from the children being dropped off by the bus.
PRIMARY SECTION Lower Primary: Grade 1–4 For our lower primary, we have incorporated e-learning extensively as part of our plan to develop leaders that are versatile and agile in environments that are changing quickly and unpredictably. We believe that a conversance with technology aids our learners in their learning by opening them up to more innovative ways of thinking, learning and executing what they learn. Upper Primary: Class 5–8 Our upper primary provides a robust academic environment that encourages project learning to develop critical and analytical thinking in line with our focus to develop wholesome, confident and curious leaders who are adaptable to the fast-changing nature of the world and are able to challenge the status quo and offer creative solutions. We advocate for independent thinking while encouraging team work and in addition to our emphasis on academic excellence, we are keen on developing wholesome leaders and we encourage an exploration of their talents in sports, music and creative arts through various clubs and activities available at the school. In addition to these clubs, we also have a thriving business club that is nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs!
