MARCH 12, 2021 | EDITION 23 Weekly Newsletter REMEMBERING WHAT JESUS DID FOR ALL OF US; AS WE APPROACH. EASTER Matthew Houghton, Principal How can we connect our life to Jesus nearly two thousand years later? We have learned that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose from the dead on Easter morning. We recite this creed out loud each week at church. Lent certainly is a time to refocus on Jesus in our lives, and what a beautiful time of year to do this reflection. The daffodils remind us that spring is right around the corner. As Easter fast approaches, we may purchase ourselves or our children a coat, hat, gloves, or dress. Everyone likes to show off their Easter clothes. Is Easter all about clothes, candy, Easter eggs, and baskets filled with chocolate bunnies? Of course not, and our bible stories remind us that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose from the dead on Easter morning. This truth is at WHAT'S INSIDE the center of our Catholic faith and teachings. Even though the real-life events THIS ISSUE: of Jesus happened a long time ago, we can reconnect these facts to our personal and family life during the Lenten season. It is fun to repeat the family Full STEaM Ahead- 2 Easter traditions we had as children and have now established our families. Announcements- 3 Our Parish does so many wonderful and supportive events during Lent St Patrick's Feast Day-4 available for each of us. Please check out our Parish website at stpaulsbangor.me for more information. As we continue to navigate the COVID- 19 pandemic during Lent, it is more important than ever to remember that Jesus, our God, is in charge! As we get older and wiser, He often becomes alive through our faith and our relationships. Lent is also an excellent time to attend confession. When we confess our sins, we become closer to God. When we release our sins, we restore our spirit through God’s grace. We know that Christ died for us, and on Easter morning, He rose and came back to life. A verse to think about this time of year from John 11.25-26. “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” God’s blessings to you, and please stay safe.

SAINT PATRICK'S FEAST DAY Source: Wikipedia Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, lit. 'the Day of the Festival of Patrick'), is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. 385 – c. 461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland. Saint Patrick's Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland),[6] the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland,[5] and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general.[7] Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilís, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks.[8] Christians who belong to liturgical denominations also attend church services[7][9] and historically the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol were lifted for the day, which has encouraged and propagated the holiday's tradition of alcohol consumption.[7][8][10][11] Saint Patrick's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland,[12] Northern Ireland,[13] the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador (for provincial government employees), and the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated in the United Kingdom,[14] Canada, United States, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand, especially amongst Irish diaspora. Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated in more countries Source: Wikipedia than any other national festival.[15] Modern celebrations have been greatly influenced by those of the Irish diaspora, particularly those that developed in North America. However, there has been criticism of Saint Patrick's Day celebrations for having become too commercialised and for fostering negative stereotypes of the Irish people.[16] Special Events at Maine Parishes Highlight Celebration of the Feast Day of Saint Patrick Special events at Maine parishes will highlight the Diocese of Portland’s celebration of the Feast Day of Saint Patrick. The feast day holds special significance as Saint Patrick, along with Saint Jean Baptiste, is a secondary patron of the diocese.
