Find these on TEQ's corporate website. 20 September 2018 Queensland lands major global aviation conference Delegates from major airlines around the world will descend upon Brisbane next year to attend a major international aviation conference secured for Queensland. The 145th International Air Transport Association (IATA) Slot Conference will run from 12-15 November 2019, where some of the biggest players in international aviation will come together to negotiate slots at international airports. The conference is set to pump more than $2.3 million into the Queensland economy and provide a great opportunity for Queensland's tourism industry to strengthen relationships with airline executives in growing tourism markets. Gold Coast comes alive with sporting action The Gold Coast swelled with visitors last weekend, with three major Commonwealth Games sporting events returning to the city in a bumper weekend of action. The ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast and Age Group World Championships, 2018 Gymnastics National Club Carnival and the Qantas Wallabies vs Argentina delivered a multi-million- dollar boost for the Coast. Two of these events are classed as high-participation events - bringing thousands of competitors and officials, coaches and spectators over several weeks and generating a strong return for the economy. In another win, the Gold Coast will also host three major hockey events over the next two years in a deal set to generate $3.9 million and 25,500 visitor nights for the local economy. Read more Attracting Tourism Fund - your questions answered The Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games has developed some guidelines and FAQs around the Attracting Tourism Fund (ATF) for those working in the tourism industry. This is a $48.6 million fund that will bring more flights to Queensland and deliver new tourism infrastructure, projects and attractions to position Queensland as Australia’s leading destination. Who can apply? The ATF is open to local tourism operators, local governments, commercial/private enterprises, regional tourism organisations, and economic development organisations. What type of tourism projects will be considered? To be eligible for funding, projects must meet the objectives of the ATF and fall into one of the stipulated categories. Read more
Queensland visitor experiences showcased in Japan Queensland’s unique visitor experiences were showcased in Japan last week as part of an annual Tourism and Events Queensland travel mission, aimed at increasing awareness of Queensland in this key market. A record 28 Queensland tourism businesses embarked on the ‘Queensland on Tour’ mission to Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo, meeting with 300 Japanese partners, including product managers, airline, retail and sales staff. In the year ending March 2018, Queensland welcomed 203,000 Japanese visitors who spent $397.5 million in the state, making it Queensland's third most valuable international market.
