PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGES I just wanted to start my messages today by saying a huge thankyou for all the hard work everyone put in during both remote learning periods this year. The staff are thrilled to have the students back on site and get back to doing what we love. I know that parents and stu- dents are also very glad they are back. Welcome Back: This term we welcome back Beth Brear who has returned from maternity leave. Beth will be working each Thursday for the remainder of 2020. Her role will involve assisting students in both classrooms with numeracy and she will be teaching the 3/4 students during their integrated studies lessons each week. This week we also welcome back Billy and Pete who will resume their private and small group music lessons on site. We also welcome a new student who has also stated here in Year 5 this term. His name is Leon. The students have all made him feel very welcome and he has settled in well this week. Road Safety at end of day: Just a note for parents when collecting students in the afternoon—if you are parked across the service road (and not in a short term park on the footpath side) please come across the road and collect your chil/dren from the front gate. Students are not permitted to cross the road without parent supervision. Cars are backing out, the bus comes along and it is quite dangerous for unsupervised crossing of the road. Maths Equipment: The school was fortunate enough to be able to purchase $5000 worth of new maths equipment this term. Staff spent some of the pupil free day unpacking the new equipment ready for the students to use. This new equipment will enable students to explore a range of mathematical concepts in a hands on way and we know it will make their maths lessons even more engaging. Integrated Studies: This term our integrated studies lessons will work through a social and emotional skills resource called ‘Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships.’ The whole school will spend two lessons each week working through topics 1-6 of this resource. I have included information about the topics that will be covered this term in the newsletter. Hats and Drinks: As we are a sun smart school, all students must wear their broad brimmed school hat each day in the yard. This year all students were given a school hat to keep here at school, but if they happen to not have it here with them they will be asked to play under the shelter area near the entrance to the school. Please also ensure your children bring a drink bottle filled with water each day. At the moment we are not allowed to provide cups and there is no access to bubblers. Assembly: At the moment we are not able to have additional adults on the school site so we have started recording the weekly assembly for families to watch of a Friday afternoon. Hopefully this helps you stay connected even though you cant be here in person.
Book Week Parade: Next Wednesday the 21st October we will be having our annual Book Week parade. Usually this occurs in Term 3 but it was delayed due to remote learning. Students can dress up as their favourite book character or they can dress up according to the annual theme which is 'Curious Creatures, Wild Minds!' Unfortu- nately grandparents won't be able to attend, but the stu- dents will still spend the morning completing a range of literacy activities related to the 2020 shortlisted books. Whole school PE: This term the whole school PE lessons have moved to a Monday morn- ing. If your child would like to wear their sports shirt on a Monday instead of a Friday, they can do so. If you need to purchase a new sports shirt please see Jan. End of year celebrations: At this point in time we have no confirmed guidance about end of year celebrations/ graduation and what can and cannot occur. If we are able to hold the usual graduation evening it will be Wednesday 9th December. This is tentative and we will follow all current advice closer to the date. Camp: Unfortunately we have had to cancel the year 3-6 camp this year. It will go ahead in Term 4 2021 to Philip Island. Deposits will be refunded to all year 6 students in the coming weeks. I am looking into whether a local camp may be feasible and I will keep you updated. Footy Colours Day: This will be next Thursday 22nd and students can wear the footy colours of any code (soccer, rugby, AFL, netball). Please send along a GOLD COIN DONATION which will go to the Fight Cancer Foundation. 2021 Foundation Students: Today we had two of our new Foundation students start their Transition to School program. We welcomed Sarah and Cooper, who had a great morning in the P-3 classroom.
