COVID-19 Disability Recovery Action Plan 2020-21 Department of Energy and Public Works March 2021
Department of Energy and Public Works The Department of Energy and Public Works (DEPW) COVID- 19 Disability Recovery Action Plan 2020-21 is intended to support people with disability and the disability services sector in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. We support Queensland’s economic wellbeing and contribute to improving the quality of life for people and communities. The department contributes to the Queensland Government's objectives for the community by delivering policies, programs and services which support jobs, back small business, build Queensland, grow our regions, invest in skills and protect the environment. The Queensland Disability Services Act 2006 (the Act) provides a foundation for promoting the rights of Queenslanders with disability, increasing their wellbeing and encouraging their participation in community life. It requires all Queensland Government agencies to implement a Disability Service Plan. Disability Service Plans ensure each agency has regard to the Act’s service delivery principles and the government’s policies for people with disability. The Queensland Human Rights Act 2019 also requires that the human rights of people with disability are respected. Our COVID-19 Disability Recovery Action Plan 2020-21 reflects our commitment to consider the needs of people with disability in our response and recovery from the public health emergency. Key focus areas as per Queensland’s Disability Recovery Action Plan are: ensuring high quality engagement and communication with people with disability maintaining service continuity and identifying opportunities to reshape service arrangements that support people with disability and disability service providers identifying and addressing COVID-19 issues affecting people with disability. We will report on our progress against this Plan at the end of 2020-21. Version 1.0 2
