BOROUGH OF PIERREFONDS-ROXBORO 2021 ART CONTEST RULES AND DETAILS The Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough is pleased to invite all Island of Montréal artists to participate in its Art Contest 35th Edition! The aim of the contest is to encourage and promote the talent of amateur and professional artists who reside on the island of Montréal. Prizes will be presented at an award ceremony on the evening of Thursday December 9th, 2021, to which all contest entrants will be invited. Those interested in participating in the contest are requested to read these rules and to fill in the registration form by Wednesday November 10th, 2021. Registration form --- AN INSPIRING CATEGORY ! Recycled art Recycled art brings objects back to life, by using recovered or found articles to make works of art. Reminder: All works of art with or without relief must be mounted on a base ready to hang. --- TO ENTER THE CONTEST Amateur category Watercolours, gouache, painting, drawing or mixed techniques, recycled art. • Youth (age 5-12 and age 13-17) • Adult (18+) • Senior (65+) Professional category Watercolours, gouache, painting, drawing or mixed techniques, recycled art. • Professional artists over 18 years old 1/7
NON-REFUNDABLE CONTEST ENTRY FEES These fees must be paid when the work of art is submitted. Exhibition and sale Þ December 20th to December 21st , 2021. WORKS OF ART SUBMISSION Thursday, November 18th between 1:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. It is very important to follow the above timeline. Requests for exceptions will have to be made by calling 438 354-1392. Please note that approval for late submission will depend on the jury’s workload. CONTEST ENTRY RULES Status and residence Amateurs: Person who practices an art for recreational purposes and who does not subscribe to the conditions of the Act respecting the professional status of artists in the visual arts, arts and crafts and literature and their contracts with promoters. Professionals: Person who has professional artist status, who creates works of art in the fields of visual art, arts and crafts or literature, to whom the following criteria are applicable: 1. He/She declares themselves to be a professional artist; 2. He/She creates works of art on their own behalf; 3. Their works of art are exhibited, produced, published, presented in public or marketed by a publicist or promoter; 4. He/She has received recognition as a professional by his/her peers, by way of honourable mention, an award, a prize, a grant, appointment to an adjudication committee or an invitation to participate at a salon or by any other similar means2. Winners of the 2021 competition are not eligible to reapply before 2024, with the exception of those receiving an honourable mention. However, they may present a work out of competition. Participants must reside on the Island of Montreal (proof of residence required upon submission) Partcipants must not be related to the judges or organizers. Employees of the Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro and members of the Borough Council are not eligible to enter this competition. Works of art All works of art must be originals, meaning exclusive creations by the contest entrant. Contest entrants who reproduce, even partially, the works of art of other artists, commercial pictures, greeting cards, magazines, etc., will be disqualified and asked to return their prize. Insurance for the work of art is at the contest entrants’ expense. Framing and dimensions Dimensions (excluding the frame): maximum of 76 cm x 61 cm (29.93 in. x 24.02 in.) Only framed works of art ready to be hung will be accepted (eyelets, wire). Eyelets must be placed within the top third of the frame, with a taut metal wire. Gallery Artist Canvas 2 cm (1.5 in.) are accepted as long as the sides are painted. For non-figurative creations that expand in space, framing is left to the artist’s discretion, according to the latter’s creative plan. However, the work of art must be ready to be hung (eyelets, wire). Jury and evaluation The jury reserves the right to verify the contest entrant’s category, to modify the contest entry form as well as cancel a category and combine one category with another in case of a lack of contest entrants. The decisions of the jury are final and without appeal. The jury’s choice of winners is based on four criterias: Þ imagination/creativity Þ expression Þ composition Þ technique After the jury’s evaluation, the Borough reserves the right not to exhibit some of the works of art, if the number of contest entries is greater than the hanging space. Identification of the work For the exhibition-sale, all works of art will have to be identified with the following information: • title • medium • selling price • category • artist’s name (the artist’s age is required for the youth category) • phone number No commission will be deducted from the sale price of the work of art. 5/7
