THE BRIEF With lighting amounting to 80% of a typical warehouse’s Daylight, presence detection sensors and easily accessible energy usage, the challenge was to make such a large space dimming controls were essential to the design, to maximise as sustainable as possible. Primark took the first step towards energy savings and ensure task appropriate light levels at this goal, by opting for LED, which offers up to 60% reductions each location throughout the day. in energy consumption compared to fluorescent sources. To maintain a safe, comfortable and productive working As the majority of Dexeco’s LED luminaires are manufactured environment, the installation would be designed following L2 using the latest 3535 Lumileds chips offering 90% lumen building guidelines, using carefully selected ECA compliant maintenance and 60,000 operating hours, the new installation products. THE SOLUTION Verteco LED – High Level Racking Aisles EcoPack LED – Mezzanine Storage Areas With a proven track-record of excellent performance, simple A total of 10,000 Ecopack LED batten luminaires were supplied installation, significant energy reduction and rapid return on for the three mezzanine storage floors. To boost energy savings investment, the VertECO LED has secured its place as the by up to 30% for a faster return on investment, the luminaires industry leading energy-saving lighting solution in the UK for over were installed complete with integral R44 sensors for digital 5 years. daylight and presence detection. Remote control programming was also made available to easily adjust the dimming and sensor To maximise visual comfort without compromising on light functions as required. A range of sensors are also available with intensity, the Verteco LED utilises a mid-power LED chip board this product to tailor the detection functions to suit different as opposed to high-output sources commonly seen in most high mounting heights. bays on the market. The highly efficient luminaire uses a high-transmission curved The LED source is combined with a high-transmission diffuser opal diffuser and the latest Lumileds LEDs to give high LORs, to allow both glare reduction and optimal LORs to be maintained visual comfort, whilst performing at over 100 Llm/w. Built with in outputs as high as 32,000lm. This glare-limiting optic design versatility in mind, the EPK LED can be supplied in a wide range protects forklift drivers and staff requiring access to goods stored of lumen outputs from 2200 to 9000lm, lengths, and custom at high levels from hazardous glare whilst maintaining maximum optics providing open area or narrow distributions to suit a variety visibility. applications. For both the high racking aisles and open spaces, over 1600 Like the Verteco LED, the EPK is designed to simplify installation Verteco LED luminaires were supplied in 13,200 lumen output as much possible, with its separate gear spine and snap-in one versions, with ultra high rack optics to achieve a uniform and piece gear tray and diffuser for easy mounting and practical controlled light distribution. suspension tags for hands-free electrical connection. The EPK LED steel construction and injection moulded Luminaires were provided with integral passive infra-red polycarbonate end caps also protect the luminaire from the R14 sensors offering daylight regulation, presence detection, rigours of industrial facilities. and user-friendly remote control for simple and accurate commissioning at heights of 4 to 18m. The R14 sensor can be customised with a series of lens types (Narrow, Wide, Ultra-Wide) to provide the right detection range for each area. To add to the low-maintenance benefits of its Lumileds LEDs, the Verteco’s Philip’s outdoor driver offers a constant lumen output feature which eliminates lumen depreciation of the source over the luminaire’s entire lifetime, further reducing the need for re- servicing at such high and inconvenient locations. THE SOLUTION MODLED Office – Offices Protec LED Downlight – Corridors / Stairways / Amenities The MODLED Office was selected to provide Primark with a comfortably lit and productive office environment with Making full use of its wide range of customisable options, the minimum luminaires and energy consumption for a the Protec LED was adapted to serve multiple purposes. Built short capital cost payback period. Purpose-built for office for versatility, the luminaire is available with a number of environments, the MODLED office achieves this by using a custom bezels, covers, interchangeable reflectors and colour central micro prismatic optic for glare reduction, framed by attachments. BSEN 12464 glare complaint versions were a high-transmission opal diffuser to offer 93% diffusion of supplied in the office areas, whilst the bathrooms required its high-output Lumileds LEDs. This dual optic design allows the luminaire to be silicon sealed to IP65 for added protection the installation to provide the 400 Lux recommended lux to water, dust, and dirt ingress. level for office areas using luminaire spacings as wide as 3 x 3m, whilst complying to BSEN 12464 glare limitations With highly efficient reflectors (available in specular or to support computer usage and ensure maximum visual semi-specular options), Lumileds LEDs, and Philips drivers, clarity staff. By meeting these requirements with an average the luminaire offers LORs of over 90% in lumen outputs of luminaire efficacy of 100 Llm/W for lumen outputs of up to up to 3000lm, offering the same or improved performance 11,000lm, the MODLED Office offers premium performance of fluorescent equivalents but at significantly lower power and a full compliance package to ECA, L2 and BSEN 12464 loads. simultaneously. In the corridors and stairways, the luminaire was installed The versatile luminaire is available in a wide range of options with standalone sensor and DALI dimming controls, offering a including 3 body sizes, emergency packages, sensor and corridor mode which dims the lights to a safe 10% light output dimming controls, and lay-in or pull-up installation formats when areas are left unoccupied, to harvest further energy to suit each application. Its minimalist design makes it savings. adaptable to a host of environments for a modern and attractive finish. Installation was kept quick, simple and cost-effective thanks to the Protec’s practical four-point, self-clamping spring bracket which retains the fitting into the ceiling. The versatile luminaire is also suitable for plasterboard, mineral fibre and metal tile installation in ceiling thicknesses of up to 30mm. (+44) 01747 858100 www.dextragroup.co.uk
