This is a special wine with the words "pianeta, terra, planet,
earth" painted by hand at the bottom of the bottle. The Enrico
Serafino 2007 Alta Langa Metodo Classico Pas Dosé Riserva Zero
140 opens to a pale gold color and shows immediate warmness
and creaminess. This sparkling blend of 85% Pinot Nero and 15%
Chardonnay is very inviting. You get poached pear and peach with
toasted almond and baked bread. The texture is soft and rich with
fine, soft beading that keeps the wine lively and fresh to the end.
It ages on the lees for a whopping 140 months, or 12 years. In
fact, the winery claims that this is the longest-aging sparkling
wine produced in Italy. A precious few 890 bottles were made
ZERO RISERVA 140 MESI ALTA LANGA DOCG (and my sample was disgorged at the end of January 2020).

The Enrico Serafino 2013 Alta Langa Metodo Classico Riserva
Pas Dosé Zero is a delicate and fine expression that shows
detailed aromas of grapefruit, cut grass, melon, crushed stone
and talc powder. The wine's beading is tight and sharp. This
sparkling wine is made with the Nebbiolo grape, specifically the
Picotener subvariety that this estate has so dutifully brought
back to life. The wine represents a blend of fruit from three
sites located at high altitudes (at an average of 500 meters
above sea level) where the nighttime temperatures are cool
and frisky. It ages on the lees for 72 long months, adding to the

night. It changed all the time on the nose
from burnt orange peel to dark fruits to
church insences. It was full-bodied with
what can only be described as searing
acidity, yet it was historic, stylish and long.
Very soya-like on the fnish. A funky wine
with lots of coffee and furnishing polish.

Drawing its fruit from Roero, the 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo
Picotener is named after a biotype of the mighty Piedmont
grape. Picotener was first identified as a Nebbiolo subvarietal
in 1817, but it was soon forgotten and almost lost. It farms at
very low yields, with low vegetative vigor and typically
produces a more intense color. This wine does indeed open to
darker color saturation when compared to other Langhe
Nebbiolo wines. It also shows a sweeter bouquet with plush
aromas of wild cherry or dried raspberry. There is a nice earthy
PICOTENER LANGHE NEBBIOLO DOC aroma as well. Picotener has a very soft and mild texture, and I
wonder if the grape's name was inspired by that distinctive

flavours: contrasting notes of ripe black.

The 2019 Gavi del Comune di Gavi Grifo del Quartaro is a
beautifully fragrant wine that shows the floral and tropical
fruit intensity that comes with the Cortese grape. The vines
are planted in a six-hectare site in Monterotondo di Gavi that
boasts white calcareous clay soils. These conditions reduce
the vigor of the vines, resulting in more character and
concentration. You'll also notice a drying touch of chalky
minerality that gives linearity and focus to the wine. An
