The Editor Speaks Dear Members, President’s Trophy 2018, the first major golf event to be organised by the Club this year on Mar 10, was memorable in more ways than one. Intermittent rain did not stop golfers from teeing off but strong wind buffeted Changi golf course throughout the rest of the afternoon. Nevertheless, participants had an enjoyable and undoubtedly challenging golf outing that ended with dinner and prize presentation later in the evening. The event will however be remembered for a significant reason - former Club President LG Perry Lim was due to complete his term of office and this was to be the final event to be presided over by LG Lim. We bid farewell to LG Perry Lim in this issue of RV and extend a very warm welcome to our new Club President, Major-General (MG) Melvyn Ong Su Kiat, who is also the new Chief of Defence Force. In the other parts of this issue, we catch up with the ongoing Youth Inter-Club Bowling Mixed League. And also feature winners of the first Bowling Quarterly Medal. Well done bowlers! Club members and their families who joined the fishing trip to Lazarus Island on Mar 11 were winners too as almost everyone could boast of a catch that day! We are happy to report that no one had to resort to telling the story of the fish that got away! Enjoy your day at the Club! Regards, Chua Swee Kiat Editor RESORT VIEW 3

Seen & Heard A Thrilling Day of Fishing! P articipants met bright and early on Mar 11 at Marina South Pier, ready to get a nice tan while learning how to fish! They were greeted by friendly instructor, Breyon, who provided participants with the equipment and led them to a boat that ferried them to Lazarus Island. During the scenic ride to Lazarus Island, Breyon introduced participants to the many islands that were in sight, such as Sentosa, Sisters’ Island and St John Island. The first half of the day started with theory sessions where participants learnt about the type of fishes available in the area, how to identify and handle poisonous fishes, and the specifics of fishing gear. After lunch, participants proceeded to the practical part of the workshop where they learnt to tie the various types of knots, and how to hook baits and cast lines. Then, off they went fishing! Everyone caught an average of three fish during the session! All in all, it was a very fun day under the sun! Stay tuned and join us during our next outing. you do it This is how 6 RESORT VIEW

On Par Mizuno Golf School Finding an Intermediate Target By Bernie Tan, Certified Instructor, Mizuno Golf School A question I frequently hear when I am at the driving range is, “Where are you aiming?” Do golfers really work on their targeting or aiming at the driving range? Do they have a specific target to aim at when they practise? As a golfer myself, I never really bothered about choosing a specific target because the range is so wide open. But let’s imagine the driving range as the golf course. Finding an Intermediate Target Would selecting a target to aim be important on the golf course? On Par A Memorable President’s Trophy N SRCC’s first major golf event for the year, President’s Trophy, took place at NSRCC Changi on March 10. Heavy clouds with rain and strong wind greeted golfers as they arrived at the registration counter on that day. LG Perry Lim joined all the other golfers’ for a game of golf to celebrate our very first Club event of 2018! It was indeed a truly memorable day, as it also marked General Lim stepping down as NSRCC’s Club President. Even though the rain eventually stopped, strong wind continued to accompany golfers throughout their game. Despite that, everyone managed to complete their 18-hole game. During dinner at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant, Club Captain, Tan Kah Han said a few words, congratulating successful junior golfers. This was followed by an award presentation where LG Perry Lim presented certificates to three junior golfers who are part of the development squad: Nicholas Lim, Ryan Wong and Elizabeth Ang. The prize presentation continued with awarding golfers who scored highest points in the Ladies, Men and Overall categories. Ladies’ Vice Captain, Ms Jenny Chong then took the stage to give out lucky draw prizes. LG Perry Lim positioning his putt 12 RESORT VIEW

Front Page Story B idding Club President, Lieutenant-General Perry Lim, Farewell LG Perry Lim was the Club’s 8th President, taking over the helm from LG (NS) Ng Chee Meng since August 2015. During his appointment as our Club President, NSRCC has benefited from his strong leadership qualities and clear vision in bringing the Club to greater heights, all for the betterment to fulfil our Club’s mission in serving the members and NSmen. A few projects where LG Lim provided his valuable guidance included overseeing the completion of the 9-hole golf course reconfiguration back in the year 2015, ensuring that timelines were met till it opened for play in December 2015. Working towards the future of NSRCC, he also played a heavy role in the recent planning and construction of our permanent driving range which is set to be completed in mid-2019 for members’ enjoyment. Some of the other significant projects LG Lim contributed to are the on-going plans which are underway for the development of NSmen Hub, which will include a recreational hub, additional chalets, and other social facilities. These will eventually shape the future of our Club, in terms of both our recreational and social facilities for NSmen and their families’ enjoyment. LG Lim also recognised the need for the Club to continue working hard in all aspects of our services to provide a better experience for the members. These included active engagement with members, regular facilities enhancement and partnership with quality operators. These combined initiatives contributed significantly to members’ satisfaction rating, reaching 90% mark in 2016 and 2017 respectively. In addition, his strong advocacy of Corporate Social Responsibility enabled the Club to successfully raise combined sums of $650,000 for the underprivileged during the Club’s flagship annual charity events in 2016 and 2017. On behalf of the Club, the management and its committees would like to express our appreciation to LG Perry Lim, for his guidance, steady leadership, and excellent service rendered to NSRCC for the past few years. LG Lim, here’s wishing you abundant success on your future endeavours! 16 RESORT VIEW
