ROBBIE THE PLAYER! BRIEF PLAYING HISTORY Robert Fruean is a former New Zealand rugby In 2009 Robbie returned to rugby, making his union player of Samoan heritage. Entries close 4pm, Wednesday 16 September. An accurate team list must be submitted to participate - no later than tournament management meeting. Ideally all players participating will be NZRU registered, which provides an extra layer of injury cover. The following link can be used to ensure this is easily achieved: https://www.gameforall.co.nz *Please note: In the interest of safety and development to qualify for entry ALL participating schools must have a minimum of 1 or more scheduled tackle/coaching sessions provided by: Porirua/Parumoana Cluster Schools: John Schwalger rdo@northsrugby.co.nz If your school intends entering please contact John immediately to book your coaching session/s. Time is limited!! DRAW Draw will be managed upon receipt of entries and circulated to schools prior to tournament as and when possible. Most likely draw will be in the form of seeded (2019 results) pool play followed by any necessary playoffs. No debate will be entered into relating to the final draw. FIELDS Fields will be marked & allocated in draw upon receipt of entries and relating to numbers and time available. A field plan will be distributed prior along with draw and at managers meeting. TEAMS 20 per squad maximum – 2 girls minimum on the field at all times 12 players per side on field – 6 forwards & 6 backs No weight restriction. Players must be Year 5 or 6 students attending school represented. Rolling substitutions COST $50 per team to cover facilities, resources and associated expenses. Northern United RFC will invoice schools on receipt of entry.
BASIC RUGBY RULES Normal NZRU U11s tackle rugby rules apply with the following highlighted: 20 per squad maximum – 2 girls minimum on the field at all times 12 players per side on field – 6 forwards & 6 backs No pushing scrums (6 person scrums – No 8 cannot pick & run from base) No lifting in lineouts (6 person lineouts) Half field play (60m x 35m approx) Unsafe or dangerous tackling or play is unacceptable and will be sanctioned heavily 5 points per try - no conversions Game duration will be finalised on receipt of entries (15-20mins approx) No barefeet - Footwear must be worn (boots/touch shoes/runners) Teams must to be ready to play and at their allocated field 5mins prior to scheduled kick off. Play will commence with or without teams present. Referees - Will be provided to the best of our ability. Warm Ups must take place on Porirua Park training field (next to field 1)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION Equipment Each school is to provide their own team kit and training gear. Match balls will be provided by Northern United – 1 per field and to be returned following last match. Mouthguards compulsory! NO MOUTHGUARD - NO PLAY! If required mouthguards can be purchased from NURFC for $2 each. To order please contact JOHN SCHWALGER. Please have suitable team first aid kits present alongside transport and/or contact information in place in case of an injury. Logistics COVID requirements - Each team will have a designated area in the main stand to keep their gear and equipment together. Public toilets, both Mens & Womens will be OPEN Children must bring their own food and drink for throughout the day. Schools and/or contact person/s will be notified by 8.00am on day of tournament of any cancellations or postponements. Sideline behaviour Please note: there will be zero tolerance relating to abusive or aggressive sideline behaviour. Anyone displaying this kind of behaviour will be asked to leave the ground. This is a fun, development tournament for players and we must promote a supportive environment. Schools & staff are asked to take the lead in promoting positive sideline behaviour from their players, parents and supporters Players/coaches/management/tournament officials ONLY on the playing enclosure. Parents and Supporters to watch from grandstand, concrete walkway or behind any fenced areas.– Please ensure this is adhered to.
