AT Legislation Update Public Act 100-0993 “At the child's initial IEP meeting and at each annual review meeting, the child's IEP team shall provide the child's parent or guardian with a written notification that informs the parent or guardian that the IEP team is required to consider whether the child requires assistive technology in order to receive free, appropriate public education. The notification must also include a toll-free telephone number and internet address for the State's assistive technology program.”

Who Is IATP? The Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP) is a not-for-profit agency that promotes the availability of assistive technology (AT) devices and services for people with disabilities. IATP serves all people with disabilities in the state of Illinois, their families, service providers, state agencies, private industry, educators, and other interested individuals, regardless of age or income.
What Does IATP Do? School Based AT/AAC Assessments Device Loans Demonstration Center AT Reuse & Reutilization Financial Loans AT Assessments IEP Support WIPA Training
ISBE – AT School-Based Assessments Serving students K-12, ages 3-21 Initial referral followed with information packet Observation, trial/demonstration, and team meeting
Providing Access to Curriculum Primary goal of the evaluation is to examine devices/software which may provide independent access and success in the academic curriculum
Available to ALL Qualified (IEP/504) Students with Disabilities Commonly Supported • SLD ( Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, etc…) • Cerebral Palsy • Blind or Low Vison • Down Syndrome • Autism
AT/AAC Packet •Filled out by team members: •Parent(s) •Classroom Teacher •Speech/Language Pathologist •Occupational Therapist •Physical Therapist •Vision Specialist •Hearing Specialist •Include: Current IEP/504, pertinent reports, Release of Information (ROI)
SETT • Student – likes/dislikes, strengths/challenges • Environment – School classroom, home, general/special education, peers, team members etc.… • Task- types of activities that need to be addressed • Technology – After consideration of all variables, recommend and trial AT
Recommendations • Report with AT and/or AAC recommendations • Training offered for AT and vendor coordination with AAC assessments • AAC reports provide information necessary for Medicaid/Insurance • Trials recommended before purchases are made
Device Loan • Free five-week trials made through online requests www.iltech.org • Referral number used to expedite the trial for schools; also available to the general public and families • Extensions may be granted if there is no waitlist
Device Loan • Extensive selection available in our library • Up to date AAC and items currently manufactured and supported • Integral part of our AT/AAC assessment process
