Welcome to Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty's weekly Centre Newsletter; the source of all the exciting things happening in the WBOP Zone including umpiring modules, coaching modules, and tournaments. It's only as good as you make it, so please provide feedback and share what's happening in your netball centre. University of Waikato NWBOP Open Grade & Year 10 SS Tournament
Our third University of Waikato NWBOP Open Grade & Year 10 Secondary School Tournament took place over the weekend in Rotorua with 55 teams from schools across our zone competing on Sunday 6 August. Cambridge High School won the Year 10 section, Huntly College won Open Grade Section 2, and Hamilton Girls High School won Open Grade Section 1. Congratulations to all players and umpires identified as part of NWBOP Zone talent identification process and well done to all teams who competed. Full results and the tournament team are available here on our NWBOP website. Netball WBOP Appoint New CEO Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone Inc (Netball WBOP) is pleased to confirm the
appointment of Rohan West to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Rohan returns to New Zealand after spending that last 21 years living and working in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States in a variety of sports related roles, the most recent being Performance & Commercial Director at the British Basketball Federation as well as roles at Volleyball England, Ticketmaster UK and the University of Limerick. Rohan brings with him a wealth of experience in business development, relationship management and funding as well as proven capability in the development and delivery of long term strategy in the sports industry. Our clients include major national retail chains and we conduct stocktakes in most towns and cities around the country. If you would like to join our stock take team when we are in your area, we would be keen to hear from you. Magic Players named in Silver Ferns Squad 2017 Magic players Grace Rasmussen, Sam Sinclair, Monica Falkner, & Kelly Jury have all been named in the Silver Ferns 2017/18 Squad covering all international tests this season including the Commonwealth Games. Kelly & Sam will feature in the Netball Quad Series Team playing Australia, South Africa, & England, while Monica, Grace, & Kelly are named in the Taini Jamison Trophy team playing England. The Silver Ferns will open their international season in Brisbane on Saturday 26 August against South Africa’s SPAR Proteas in the Netball Quad Series. Read more. Silver Ferns tickets - on sale now

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarships at University of Waikato The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is the University of Waikato's premier school leaver scholarship. It supports school leaver students who excel in a sporting code or creative or performing art, to achieve high academic standards, and to develop leadership qualities through a tailored leadership and personal development programme. Applications close 31 August. If you know any netball players at your centres who would be suitable please encourage them to apply. A number of Magic players including Sam Sinclair, Kelly Jury, and Sydney Fraser have received this amazing scholarship. Click here for more information. Like players, umpires are assisted to grow their skills by a passionate and hardworking group of Umpire coaches. Umpire coaches apply to be an umpire coach and once appointed they must attend a Netball New Zealand (NNZ) Umpire coach Workshop in our Zone each year and are observed coaching as part of their ongoing training. We have around 100 accredited umpire coaches in NWBOP in 2017. Read more. Netball WBOP Calf Club The Netball WBOP Calf Club 2017 is back again and we need your help in signing up support. Everyone who pledges a calf receives tickets to a Magic game in 2018 and all proceeds go back in to supporting netball throughout the Zone. Please share with your contacts and continue sharing our NWBOP Social Media posts. Any questions please let us know. Tournaments, Trials and other events NWBOP is having a number of tournaments this netball season enabling young netball players in our Zone to develop and further their playing skills by competing against other teams of their level. This month Taupo Netball Centre is hosting the Story Cup Tournament on Sunday 13 August. This annual tournament is for Under 15, Year 8, Year 7, & Year 6 Representative teams and Year 6 School/Club grades. Click here for more information and to register.
Rotorua Netball Centre is hosting the Kurangaituku Schools Tournament for Secondary and Intermediate schools on 9 & 10 September. For more information please email rotnet@xtra.co.nz For more information on either of these events or any others in the NWBOP calendar please click here. 2018 Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone Trials Trials for the 2018 Waikato Bay of Plenty Beko Squad 2018 Magic Training Partner’s Invitation 2018 Waikato Bay of Plenty Level 2 Performance Squad Will be held Sunday 17th September 11am – 2pm at ASB Stadium Tauranga The Beko 2nd trial (invitees named after the first trial) will be held Wednesday 20th September 5pm – 7.30pm at Cambridge High School gymnasium Potential trialists must register with Netball WBOP Performance Manager, Debbie Fuller (debbie.fuller@netballwbop.co.nz) by Monday 4th September 2017.
