School and Group Visits to The Sage Gateshead A journey of musical discovery The Sage Gateshead opened in December 2004, described by The Independent as “the most exciting new development on the British arts scene for many years”. In a landmark building, next to the Tyne bridge in a stunning setting, we put on concerts and gigs of all types of music, from huge symphony orchestras to club nights, and run many classes, workshops and training sessions for all ages, in all types of music, for every skill level. It’s a fascinating place to visit: the building, designed by the architecture practise of one of the world’s most famous architects, Norman Foster, has already become a major tourist attraction for the region, and our programme of workshops has been hailed by the public and music and education worlds alike. The Sage Gateshead offers school parties and youth groups a range of half day visits, all offering exciting, hands-on experience of the power and fun of music. Your session at The Sage Gateshead will include an interactive presentation on the building plus an exciting tour – as well as your own workshop. Each visit offers a resource pack to use back at base. During term time we offer visits to schools and during holidays the sessions are available to other organisations and groups. Much of the programme from September 06-July 07, is planned in themed weeks and designed to cater for all ages and abilities. We are always happy to discuss bespoke sessions, created to suit group needs. The Sage Gateshead has created a learning programme that serves both music specialists and non-specialists, supporting National Curriculum delivery not only in music but also in other subject areas, including history, science and citizenship. Your session at The Sage Gateshead will include an interactive presentation on the building plus an exciting tour – as well as your workshop. We hold two sessions a day, for up to 30 participants: 9.30am -12pm (morning session) and 12.30pm - 3pm (afternoon session). The price is £4 + VAT per student – adults attend for free.
