Popular Seneca Lake Wedding Venues (Watkins Glen/Geneva Wedding, NY) By Matt Norton www.SenecaLakeWeddings.com Planning a Finger Lakes wedding is not a light task with so many wonderful locations to choose from. Watkins Glen is quickly becoming one of the top Finger Lakes wedding locations. It offers one of the best views of Seneca Lake making a beautiful backdrop for your finger lakes wedding. The relatively new Harbor Hotel offers a patio with a beautiful view of Seneca Harbor as well as two large ballrooms that can be opened up into one making it one of the largest in the area, holding up to 300 guests. Watkins glen also offers cruises if you would like to take your wedding onto the water. For smaller more intermit weddings you may choose to do your Watkins Glen wedding free of charge on the Seneca Harbor pier. On the other end of Seneca Lake you’ll find Belhurst Castle offering a young girls fantasy come true, all the romance and inspiration from fairy tales come to life with this majestic structure as a back drop to your finger lakes /Seneca Lake wedding. Or maybe you would like something a bit more privet as Belhurst is a very large popular facility. They often conduct several weddings in one day. Right next door you can find Geneva on the Lake boasting spacious grounds with several outdoor locations to choose from. A large garden area and a big tent are two of its great Lake side features. Also nearby Geneva’s Ramada inn has a nice little gazebo by the water that can be used for your ceremony. The banquet hall features large windows overlooking the lake for a great view while you dine. You will
find a similar case at the other end of the lake with Seneca Harbor Station. You may choose to dine inside this train station turned restaurant or take your dining outside. You may want to consider Geneva’s lakeside park owned by New York State. There is a large gazebo for your “I do’s” and you can put up a tent if you wish, creating your own Seneca Lake Wedding venue. A To Z Rentals in Elmira rents a 20 X 40 tent for $319. Side curtains are optional for an additional charge. While you are there you can pick up a generator too, starting at around $25 a day. You will also need to rent tables and chairs. A dance floor and decorative accent/ lighting may be able to be provided by a DJ or wedding rental center. If an outside reception does not appeal to you then after you say ”I do” you may want to head over to Geneva ‘s high class Club 86 for a step back in time to the days when swing bands and Jazz were big. This night club turned party center was once the hottest New York club in the 1940s-50’s. Experience a piece of musical history as you walk down the entrance hall lined with signed pictures from the artists that put this one of a kind club on the map and made big band music waves. Its custom recess lit fiberglass ceiling, booth seating and multi level dining make this one of a kind wedding venue one of the most unique in the area. And with its ability to hold over 400 guests it is one of the largest facilities in the area as well. Combine all that with what some consider to be the best catering service on Seneca Lake and you have a facility that is one of our top Seneca Lake wedding venue choices. Heading back down to Watkins Glen you’ll find our top wedding ceremony location choice offering the best unobstructed view of Seneca Lake. Owned by the village of Watkins glen this beautiful public
park allows Lakeside ceremonies free of charge. While you and your guest may have to pay for parking it is a small price to pay for this incredible view. And during the hot months of July and August the cool breeze off the Lake makes for the perfect place to spend a hot summer afternoon. While tents are not allowed, though not glamorous there are a couple of pavilions available for party rentals. If you are looking to have an outdoor reception then you may want to consider the Watkins Glen State park. Although guest parking is a bit highly priced, its stone pavilion with dual fireplaces at the top of the gorge is also a popular Watkins Glen wedding location. It is a bit away from the lake, but it offers some very romantic backdrops for pictures. There is a small pond within a short walking distance and majestic stone stairs, archways and balconies around back offer a bit of a castle feel. Guests may also enjoyed walking the trails and if they have youngsters that need a break from all the formalities of the wedding day, there is free swimming in nearby, Olympic size and kiddy pools. Back to lake you’ll find many little wineries as well as bed and breakfasts such as the Fox and The Grapes tucked away within the rolling hills of Seneca Lake. Many of them have wedding accommodations. Logan Ridge Estates a former winery now serves as a dedicated wedding /party facility. It offers great views of the lake and its valley with a second story patio for wedding ceremonies that also doubles as nice alternative dance floor once the night cools down a bit. It offers some great outdoor party time and a great place to watch your own privet fireworks show if you are so inclined.
About 15 minutes up the west side of the lake Glenora winery also offers a wonderful view of the valley with its large cheerful well lit wood toned dining hall featuring lots of windows for spectacular views. Its huge grounds offer numerous choices for outdoor ceremony location. A short distance north from Glenora and a cross the street, Starky’s Lookout offers another great view of the valley with high ceilings, an appealing white and grey color scheme, a small patio and a nice selection of local beers and wines. It also features large photographs of the area taken by local photographers celebrating all that the area has to offer for a bit of an artistic gallery atmosphere. Tucked away further back on the west hillside of the lake, not too far outside of Watkins Glen you will find Castel Grisch. Giveing you a taste of Germany, though small it’s view and outside deck offer a huge breathtaking landscape of vine laden Seneca Lake valley. It is great for outdoor ceremonies and small gatherings inside its cozy restaurant. On the other side of the lake Sarah Lees offers more fine dining, Though their services is a bit slow the food can be well worth the wait. Again it is another well lit warm wood tone facility with lots of windows and a nice wrap around deck for mingling. With facilities like these, rolling hills, lush valleys miles of vineyards, waterfalls and wooded trails it is no wonder the Finger Lakes have become such a popular location for weddings.
