ASHBURTON COLLEGE P H O E N I X 2 018 VOLUME 54 Another year, another stressful, magazine report-compiling season over! Hooray! 2018 at Ashburton College (my second year here) has been even better than the first. I have again had the privilege of witnessing much of the plethora of mind-blowingly generous, talent-filled and diligently produced activities and events offered by and for the students here at College. I can honestly say that being a member of a school with such amazing L E A D E R S & S TA F F P 2 opportunities is something that I take great pride in (even with the constant barrage of small calf jokes hurled my way by both staff and students alike). This year at College has seen a tremendously busy one with the annual events of Lip Sync, AshDance, inter-school exchanges and the return of the fantastic Music Evening being but a few of the highlights displaying the College’s wealth of talent. As the Phoenix Magazine Editor, I have had the great privilege of being present at a wide array of these events, which as well as being of much benefit to the production of the magazine, also gives me much personal delight as I get to witness the absolute majority of our wonderful students having their opportunity to shine. PRIZE LISTS & As part of the Phoenix Magazine production, there is a huge number of individuals, without ACHIEVERS P12 whom the Magazine would not be possible. The first person that I wish to thank, is the tirelessly diligent Sheena Tyrrell, who provides me with invaluable contact details, photographs and reports to use in the Magazine. Anne Sheehan and Jenny Crouchley in our amazing office team also deserve special thanks for their support and assistance in, well keeping me in line basically, and proof-reading the Magazine – thanks ladies! I must also thank, Tony Stewart, of Photoshots, who does such a tremendous job of photographing our students at both the class photos and sports photos days here at College; he does an amazing job and is a pleasure to work alongside – thank you. Finally, thank you to Mark and Paul at DPI, primarily for putting up with the delays in my depositing of reports and photographs, without grumbling at all! You are both extremely ARTS, MUSIC & C U LT U R E P 2 7 professional, friendly and an absolute pleasure to work with, as well as the simple fact that you produce an outstanding product, year after year – thanks again. A very special thank you must also go to Cloe Stowell in Year 10, for her positively powerful Phoenix painting! What a talented student we have in our midst. Well, it’s nearly done – another year at College begins to draw to a close. Best of luck to all those students who are moving on to bigger and brighter things; be safe and most importantly, be good to one-another. Kind regards, James Jenkinson. SPORTS P69 1
