A Message from your Catechism Program Dear Parents, There is so much pressure put on us as a church community to do what is right in the midst of all the evil. As parents, we must do what is right for our families and what our church teachings show us to do. As we begin this Catechism Year, know that all decisions that are made as a parish, diocese, and as a strong community of faith are not taken lightly. We, as a parish community, along with the catechism teachers will be working hard to have a safe, engaging, and loving learning environment for your children. We ask that you continue to support our parish and your children’s catechism teachers as we move through these difficult times knowing that we will prevail. We commend you for saying “Yes” to keeping Christ centered in your children’s lives. Please make sure to read and look through the entire Handbook as it will have information for all classes, catechism dates, guideline information and contact information. Please be gentle, and understand that our Catechists are on this journey for your children and following guidelines presented to them. We ask that you communicate any issues to Catechism Program leaders and teachers as well as checking emails from the Catechists to stay informed of class activities and church updates. We also ask that you communicate with us and expose or positive COVID cases within your family so that proper procedures can take place. Praying that you and your family stay healthy and safe during these times! With much Love and Blessings, OLA Catechism Program

MISSION The Religious Education Program, through the leadership of the Pastor and dedicated volunteers, continues the mission of Jesus Christ to preach and teach, to celebrate and to serve so that God’s kingdom may come in its fullness. Our mission is to encourage and aid each family in developing an active faith by providing instruction, and enabling each member to live the doctrines of the Catholic Tradition. GOAL To promote and encourage: - Proclamation of the Good News as revealed through Jesus, - the Christ Worship of God through private and liturgical prayer - Service to the Christian and entire world community - Parents in their role as primary catechists of their children PHILOSOPHY Our Catechism Program is structured to provide catechetical instruction in the Catholic faith to all parish children. Parents, by word and example, teach their children from birth throughout life. At Baptism, the parent undertakes the responsibility of providing for their child’s Christian formation. The Catechism Staff is here to assist parents in the spiritual formation and ongoing moral development of their child through a formal program of continuous religious education. In our program, we seek to provide the catechesis and skills for each child to grow and mature in understanding, positive attitudes, and faithful practice of the Catholic faith. We hope to deepen the faith and sense of belonging to the Catholic Church in our children, so that they will be moved to share their time, talent and treasure in the life of the Church, now and throughout their lives. We strive to assist children in committing themselves to a personal relationship with God characterized by a vigorous sacramental life, a lifelong pattern of prayer, Christian service, and growth in their understanding of the Catholic faith. This process is achieved with the collaborative efforts of our parish staff, catechists, parents, and students. Committed to this active partnership between parish staff and families, we place our efforts with confidence in God’s loving hands and relying on Our Lady’s intercession.
Catechism Program Expectations 1 Your child’s faith formation must be a top priority for your family. There will not be absence exceptions for sports, recreational and competitive activities. 2 Catechism classes are from 6 PM- 7:45 PM on Wednesdays. Class attendance includes Mass participation. More than 3 absences per year will be monitored. Exceeding this 3 amount may result in not moving forward in the program or reception of sacraments due to a lack of preparation. Classes cannot be made up, so please make sure that you child participates in each class. When your child is enrolled in a year where they receive the 4 Sacraments for the first time, required events are mandatory and may not be excused or made up. Lack of attendance may result in repeating the year. If the Parish must change the required dates, families will be notified in adequate time.
Catechism Guidelines for teachers, parent helpers, and children Children, Parents/Guardians, and OLA Staff/Catechist must wear a mask indoors regardless of Vaccination status. If a child forgot their 1 mask, there will be some available. Please note that Bandanas, gaiters, and similar masks are not allowed. Face shields are allowed. 2 Physical distancing inside the classrooms are recommended. Teachers will work the best they can with what is available in the classroom. Seating charts are highly encouraged in the classroom. This will 3 assist the church office when contact tracing is needed if there was a positive case or possible exposure in the classroom. Hygiene: children will have access to hand sanitizer as they enter 4 and leave the classroom. Limited sharing of items inside the classroom along with plenty of cleaning and disinfecting of items and classroom. Food and Drinks: At this time food and drinks inside the classroom 5 are prohibited or limited- food and drinks at any point, should not be shared. Outdoor Class: If a teacher decides to take the class outside for 6 any lesson or activity, Masks are optional but social distancing must take place. Outside gatherings are encouraged if whether is permitted.
Exposure Guidelines PARENTS MUST NOTIFY THE CATECHISM DIRECTOR AND THEIR 1 CHILD’S CATECHISM TEACHER IF THERE IS A POSITIVE CASE OR EXPOSURE FROM SCHOOL OR OTHER LOCATIONS! PLEASE DO NOT DELAY THE NOTIFICATION! 2 Once we are notified, we will look into the seating chart and start the contact tracing. Students that are exposed from a positive COVID or exposure from 3 other children will be notified by the church office. A letter will also be emailed with information and instructions. Quarantine for 10 days is required. 4 During this time, please stay in contact with your catechism teacher so that your child get the lesson(s) for the weeks they miss due to the quarantine. 5 Child is able to return after the 10 days if there are not symptoms or tested positive. Absences due to approved quarantines are not count against your child’s overall attendance. These must be approved quarantines as we do not want families to take advantage of the fact that this is an excusable cause.
