COVER SUPERVISOR Job Title: Cover Supervisor Responsible to: Office Manager and Senior Leadership Team Hours: 37 hours a week (7:15-3:15) Contract Term time Salary: H4 (£19,698-£20,903) OVERVIEW To supervise classes during the short-term absence of the assigned teacher. PURPOSE The role will comprise: 1. The job is to provide cover for whole classes during the short-term absence of a teacher. The teacher may be absent on sick leave or to participate in professional development or to attend a meeting or to allow time for planning, preparation or assessment. The principal’s professional judgement will determine the deployment of a cover supervisor. 2. The jobholder will not engage in “active” teaching. 3. Organising cover. RESPONSIBILITIES • To supervise work that has been set by a class teacher. • To manage the behaviour of pupils whilst they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive environment. • To respond to any questions from pupils about process and procedures. • To deal with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures. • To collect completed work after the lesson and pass to the appropriate teacher. • To report, as appropriate using the school’s agreed referral procedures, on the behaviour of pupils during the class and on any problems arising. • The post-holder is required to contribute to and support the overall aims and ethos of the school. • To participate in training and other learning activities and in appraisal and professional development, as required by the school’s policies and practices. • To undertake any other task as requested by the Principal GENERAL No job description can be entirely comprehensive and roles develop organically over time. The post holder will be expected to adapt and carry out such duties as may be required from time to time, on the understanding that they will be within the individual’s remit and capability, and consistent with the status and responsibilities of the role within the organisation. Person Specification ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE • Qualified to work in the UK. • Previous experience working within schools. If you are currently working with children, on either a paid or voluntary basis, your current employer will be asked about disciplinary offences, including those related to children or young people (whether the disciplinary sanction is current or time-expired), and whether you have been the subject of any child protection allegations or concerns and if so the outcome of any investigation or disciplinary proceedings. If you are not currently working with children, but have done in the past, that previous employer will be asked about these issues. 4. You should be aware that provision of false information is an offence and could result in the application being rejected or summary dismissal if the applicant has been selected, and possible referral to the police and/or Independent Safeguarding Authority. Invitation to Interview – please bring with you: • Disclosure of Criminal Record, or Disqualification Declaration form in a sealed envelope. This form will be sent to candidates invited to interview. • Documentary evidence of identity that will satisfy DBS requirements such as a current UK Photo card driving license and/or a current passport and/or a full birth certificate • Documentary proof of address (i.e. utility bill, financial statement etc.) • Where appropriate any documentation evidencing a change of name • Original certificates confirming any educational or professional qualifications that are necessary or relevant for the post • Evidence that you have the right to work in the UK Please note that originals of the above are necessary. Photocopies are not sufficient. Candidates will be asked to account for any gaps in their employment history and to address any discrepancies or anomalies in their application form. We will seek references on longlisted candidates and may approach previous employers for information to verify particular experience or qualifications before interview. Laureate Academy – the area The area has fantastic transport links, including a mainline station direct into Euston. It is a 25- minute walk from the station to the school, or there is a taxi rank right outside and 5 min journey by car. There is ample free parking on-site.
