Home Learning Pack for Reception Monday 11th January - Friday 15th January 2021 This pack does not need to be printed. Pupils can work through the learning using their own pad/exercise book. Pupils can gain extra support by clicking on the links throughout this pack.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR RECEPTION CLASS PARENTS/CARERS Please note that embedded recorded videos of the class teacher will not be accessible from this version due to it being in PDF format for our website. A separate copy in PowerPoint mode will be emailed to all Reception class parents/carers before Monday morning so that videos can be accessed. Please email reception@oasisbyron.org if you do not receive your copy. This copy is for reference only. Thank you for your patience whilst we learn to overcome technical challenges.

READING It is very important to keep up with reading during lockdown. Children at an early stage of their reading development need a lot of repetition as well as praise and encouragement. MONDAY - MATHS Review Learning: - Talk about number 6 from last week. How did you split 6 up? 3 + 3, 2 + 4 etc Today we are going to learn the next Numberblock. What number comes after 6? Get children to go and collect 7 items from around the house. Check how many there are. Emphasis 1:1 counting – pointing, touching etc Children to draw or paint a rainbow Numberblock 7 and write a 7 next to it (email to Mrs Turner) dice games below.
MONDAY - LITERACY We are going to spend a few weeks learning about superheroes. Thought shower with you child what they already know about superheroes. What is a superhero? What do they look like? Shared writing of a list of all the superheroes they know and ask them what their superpower is. What did the Evil Pea do to the fruit and vegetables? Draw a picture of Supertato and the Evil Pea and write their names.
TUESDAY - PHONICS Practise sounds: or, oo, ar, x, th Tricky Troll words: he, we, me, be, she Today we are not learning a new sound but reviewing what we have learnt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC6wQQHo8uU Learn the alphabet song off by heart – record your child singing it and send me the video to watch – I would love to see it. Play pairs using all the tricky troll words we have learnt so far. On small pieces of paper write (or get the children to write) two of each word. TUESDAY MATHS Remind children we are learning about the number 7? What was special about 7? Learn rainbow song and check to count there are 7 colours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvjn-Se37Os Today we are going to focus on ‘one more’. What does more mean? We are making the total bigger by adding something to do. TUESDAY - LITERACY Remind children about our Supertato story. Either watch or read it again. What are super powers? Write a list for the children while they watch you using their ideas e.g flying, invisibility, speed, strength etc. Children to think about their favourite superhero and their powers. Encourage your child to draw their favourite superhero – or print one. Write a sentence underneath naming their superhero. “This is ____________ .” (email a copy to Mrs Turner)

Tell them that when they are together they make a new ‘ur’ sound Read some words together with ur in blending and saying each word Fur, burn, burp, curl, surf, turn This story is about Nursery rhymes – watch the story again and see how many different nursery rhymes are in the story. WEDNESDAY – MATHS Review: Talk about numbers we have learnt so far and look at Numberblocks 1 – 7 talk about their different features Introduce 8 – what animals have eight legs (spider and octopus) New Learning: Numberblocks – 8 https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgvmb/numberblocks-series-2-eight Eight is one more than 7 What is good about Numberblock 8? Talk about all the things he can do Challenge: Draw an animal that has 8 legs and write a number 8 next to it.

Ask your parents to set up a zoom call so you can talk to one of your friends.

Talk about how the o and w come together to make a new sound ow Blend and read a few words together with the ow sound. THURSDAY – UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD Bird Feeders Last week we learnt about winter and how hard it can be for birds to find food when the weather is very cold. Click on the link below to find out how to make your own birdfeeder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AtclnI5ABg If you don’t have any honey you can also use peanut butter (if no allergies in your household), lard or coconut oil. When you have finished find a place outside to hang it and take a photo to send to Mrs Turner. If it is in your own garden and you are very patient you might see a bird feeding from it.
FRIDAY – HANDWRITING Writing takes a lot of skill and children are all at very different levels. Please be very positive and encouraging with children’s attempts. Busythings has three excellent letter formation games. After you log in click on Literacy, Communication and Language and then select Handwriting Letter formation – practise these letters using the letters phrases the children have in their books. These letters all start at the top and are anti-clockwise (video on next page) c – draw around the caterpillar’s mouth (The Crunching Munching Caterpillar) a – follow the fly all the way around, up, down and flick it away (The Big Sneeze) o – draw all around the octopus (Octopus Socktopus) g – go around his grumpy face then under his tummy (Gruff the Grump)

FRIDAY – ICT Busythings – log on to Busythings using school details log in: home7578 password: jigsaw9297 Select Home then Understanding the World then People and Communities Scroll down to the options of snowman or snowflake and make a picture.
FRIDAY – MUSIC 1 - Create homemade instruments with household items Creating instruments together can be a fun activity and the instruments can then be used to explore different aspects of music. Try creating shakers by using pasta and rice in empty bottles. You could also try using bottles either with filled with varying degrees of water or empty and scraping them with spoons or twigs to make sounds, or just upturned pans and colanders. (BBC Schools)
