Term 3, Week 7 – Wednesday 5 September 2018 Kia ora families Waitākiri Primary School continues to provide amazing opportunities for students to engage and succeed in. Last week we had approximately 60 students participate in the “Strum, Strike & Blow” concert at Horncastle Arena. The students performed with many other schools with the concert featuring over 1,000 ukuleles, marimbas and recorders. Thank you to Adrienne Hale and Dianna Reynolds for all the work in preparing the students for this awesome opportunity. Last night our Kapa Haka also performed at Horncastle Arena in the Cultural Festival. This was a most powerful performance; Kapa Haka students represented us with real pride. Congratulations! Thank you to Rihari Walker for all he does to inspire our tamariki in all things Māori and to Joy Banks for her support. Many students have completed the NWS academic testing and achieving highly. We also had students raising money & collecting items for the SPCA & Child Cancer. Our top Chess team has competed at the South Island Champs this week and they have qualified to go to Nationals in the North Island. Finally, I would like to wish the Rippa Rugby team good luck with the National Tournament in Wellington early next week. I know they have been training hard and are hoping for a good result. They have a very tough pool and will be coming up against Auckland and Wellington. There are so many opportunities for your children to be involved in. Congratulations to those who are making the most of these opportunities and achieving so highly!! Noho ora mai / Stay well, look after yourself, good bye Andrew Barker Principal

The PTA won this through the entertainment book; every 5 memberships that were paid for before May put us in the draw. Thank you very much to all of the people who bought an entertainment book and who bid on our auction. We really appreciate your support. PTA Skipathon In Friday’s Learning Celebration the students were informed about the upcoming PTA fundraiser - the school Skipathon. The Skipathon is taking place next week on Thursday 13th September. We are confident that you have seen a lot of skipping going on at school and heard the buzz amongst the students. Your child brought home their Skipathon sponsorship form last Friday to start collecting their donations. Donations can either be in cash or direct credit payment to the PTA bank account listed on the form (please ensure the child’s surname and studio is used as a reference). If you need extra copies of this form, please see the school office. Each child who returns their form with at least one sponsor will go in the draw to win a prize. There is also a prize for the studio with the highest percentage of returned forms. The funds raised will go towards purchasing new outdoor seats (with an enviro criteria), storage seat, an outdoor clock and rain gauge. Collection of the Skipathon money begins on Friday 14th September and runs till Thursday 20th September. Please put the money and form in the plastic bag you were given in the drop box in the foyer, as the PTA re-use these bags each year. Please come and watch the Skipathon from 1.40pm – 2.45pm next Thursday and join in the activities. We will be assembling on the basketball courts altogether, then moving off to Te Ao Marama, basketball courts, back courts and behind the hall. All children have been divided into teams with children from their own and other studios Kind regards Carole-Ann and Chanel, PTA Co-Chairs
