OMANSON TOUR & TRAVEL Coe College 2018 INC College Concert/Jazz Band Performance Tour of Italy Itinerary includes round-trip air transportation, on ground transportation, 3-star accommodation, breakfast daily, one dinner, three performance opportunities and a half day private guided tour in each city. Day 1: Arrival in Rome Your flight from Chicago arrives in Rome this morning. After your private coach transfer to your hotel you will have free time to explore this amazing city. Rome, Italy’s capital, is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Ancient ruins such as the Forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire. Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, has St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes. Overnight 3-star hotel Day 2: City tour of Rome and free time (breakfast) This morning board a private bus with your own local guide for a half day tour of the city. Visits are included to the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon (a former Roman temple commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus), the Spanish Steps and entrance to the Vatican Museums including the Sistine Chapel. The Sistine Chapel is a chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope, in Vatican City. Overnight 3-star hotel Day 3: Group performance and free time (breakfast) Today your group has the opportunity to perform for the locals. An outdoor or indoor venue will be reserved for your group performance along with round-trip transportation and set up. Enjoy sharing your talents with those in another culture! The remainder of the day is free at leisure to explore on your own. Some suggestions include the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill, St. Peter’s Basilica and trying out some local fare and shopping in Trastevere. OMANSON TOUR & TRAVEL Coe College 2018 INC Day 4: Travel to Florence with free time (breakfast) Travel through Italy to the next stop on your itinerary. Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto. The Galleria dell'Accademia displays Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture. The Uffizi Gallery exhibits Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation.” Overnight 3-star hotel Day 5: City tour of Florence and free time (breakfast) This morning, meet your local guide for a tour of Florence on foot. Walk through famous squares, past world-renowned art galleries and experience the local culture. Stroll along the legendary Ponte Vecchio to browse the shops. There have been shops on Ponte Vecchio since the 13th century. Entrance is included to the Duomo. Florence's cathedral stands tall over the city with its magnificent Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, with the baptistery right across. Overnight 3-star hotel Day 6: Group performance and free time (breakfast) Today your group has the opportunity to perform for the locals. An outdoor or indoor venue will be reserved for your group performance along with round-trip transportation and set up. Enjoy sharing your talents with those in another culture! The remainder of the day is free at leisure to explore on your own. Some suggestions include the Uffizi Gallery, Galleria dell’Accademia, Piazza della Signoria, and for a beautiful view a visit to Piazalle del Michelangelo is a must. Overnight 3-star hotel Day 7: Travel to Venice with free time (breakfast) Travel through Italy to the next stop on your itinerary. Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs. Explore the highlights and hidden gems of Venice while enjoying the personalized attention of a small-group tour. Your itinerary will include a walking tour of historic churches, markets, hidden squares and opulent palaces, as your guide shares fascinating information about the history and culture of Venice along the way. The remainder of the day is free at leisure to explore on your own. Some suggestions include a gondola ride on one of the many canals, visiting the many museums and historical landmarks, and enjoying the local cuisine! Overnight 3-star hotel Day 9: Group performance and beach time (breakfast and farewell dinner) Today your group has the opportunity to perform for the locals. An outdoor or indoor venue will be reserved for your group performance along with round-trip transportation and set up. Enjoy sharing your talents with those in another culture! The remainder of the day is free at leisure to relax on the beaches of Venice Lido. Enjoy a special farewell group dinner this evening. Overnight 3-star hotel Day 10: Depart for home (breakfast) Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end! Italy Tour Dates Rehearsals on campus – August 3-5 Farewell Concert – August 5 Depart for Rome – August 6 August 7-8 – Rome August 9-11 – Florence August 12-14 – Venice August 15 – return to Chicago, bus home to Iowa Italy Tour Costs Students $2,450 (up to 4/room) • Non-students $2,750 (2/room) Payment plan: We do need money very soon in order to firm up our numbers, which will also allow us to pay the deposits needed to hold airline seats, buses, and hotel rooms, we will need to collect payments on the following schedule: Payment 1 – due Nov. 17 - $100 (students), $200 (non-students) The deposit is refundable until payment 2 is due. Payment 2 – due January 12 - $750 (students), $850 (non-students) Payment 2 is refundable until payment 3 is due. Payment 3 – due March 1 - $750 (students), $850 (non-students) Payment 3 is refundable until Payment 4 is due. Payment 4 – due April 2 – $850 Payment 4 is non-refundable as we will have paid the full cost by that point in time. One meal per day included. Housing on campus included during rehearsal period. Transportation to and from Chicago O’Hare airport included. Shipping personal instruments (tenor sax, trombone) NOT included. Tuba, percussion, and bari sax shipping will be included. To sign up: 1.
